Pelagic Boats 610 Island Cab - Build Thread

Hi there PB great trick not welding the sides to keep them strait,got a question whats the planing percentage of this boats hull just interested to find out,its very interesting what the design progams can do and tell you,cheers Chris.

Awsome stuff I love these threads going to be a very nice looking rig when it is done. I am definatly going to look into to doing this thanks for putting this up HH looking forward to seeing the finished product.

PB do you have set pricing for this type of boat. I do know the price will vary with engine choice trailer and electronic's but roughly what does something like this start at turn key if you do not mind me asking.

Fisho8, we only have set pricing for our production models (Boat & Trailer) I never include motors, electronics ect ect. This boat was sold through our dealer Philip Island Marine so i don't know the final price but i will find out next week when they get back from the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show and let you know. at this stage we don't have planes to make this hull a production model but as all the design work is done its no big deal knock one out in a few weeks if someone wanted one. In saying this a few mates from our game fishing club dropped in and had a look at the build and we got talking about how this boat would make an awesome fishing platform if it where a 6.5m long instead of 6.1m (the one we are building wont be used for fishing). As the driving and cab positing is at mid ship theirs not a lot of room aft cab walls if we shortened the cab walls 150-200mm and added the extra 400mm into the cockpit the fishing are would be the same as our 580DF (massive for this size boat). if i was got to build 1 for my self and i am pretty keen for a new demo boat it would be the 6.5m.

Im not 100% sure as i don't get right into that side of it (just a dumb boat Builder) my architect is currently working in the UK so i will ask him when he gets back and let you know.

Yeah I reckon 6.5 would be just nice running a 175 Zuk would be the go. Thanks mate I will wait to hear from you.

Just a short post this time, covering the progress made on the hard top.

The frame is constructed from 50mm alloy tubing, adding a lot of strength and rigidity and making it one very solid unit.

Pictured below is the hard top nearing completion. Rod holders & rocket launcher will be fitted up in due course.









Daniel and crew intend to display this boat at the forthcoming Melbourne Boat Show. They have opted to go with a vinyl wrap. The artwork for that has been completed. Here’s a sneak peak at what it will look like.

The boat is coming along nicely, been doing lots of welding and finishing off so not much to show at this stage as it all looks the same.

My self & Philip Island Marine made the decision last week not to show it at this years Melbourne Boat Show as this design isn't really set up for fishing or pleasure boating. Its a bit of a shame but it was only going to take up valuable floor space that could be used for more suited boats.

Although the boys decided to withdraw the boat from this years show and have since squeezed in several other jobs, they have continued to work on the 610 Island Cab at a steady pace. The following photos show where it is at as of yesterday.

All the sub-floor welding has been completed. The floor and island cab have been tacked into position, the bow rail has been finished, storage compartments have been fitted and a mock up of the screen has been made.

Daniel is now awaiting visit from the customer to confirm windscreen height. The aim of course is to be have uninterrupted views both when standing and when seated. Nothing worse than looking at window frames.


So first up, a few external pics of the boat, followed by some more internal pics and comments.

Whilst this boat is unlikely to have any seating, Daniel has temporarily fitted a seat/seat box combination to help demonstrate the width of the cab itself.

In addition, whilst the cab is empty at the moment, the finished item will comprise a number of shelves and storage compartments to make better use of the available space,



Looking aft and to the sides from the cab, there’s no shortage of storage compartments. The side pockets are also very generous.





The following pics shows the ample space between the island cab and hull sides which form the walk around. There is also a tonne of space between the front of the cab and the bow to improve fishability (even though this is not a fishing boat) and access the anchor well.







The next step is to install the forward bulkhead and to complete all floor and island cab welding, but more on that later.

To finish of on this part of the build, here’s a pic of the boat from the rear just to give a feel of it’s dimensions and layout.
