Hi all,
Been trying to post a report from the last full moon weekend trip we did but been flat out.
I headed wide of Fraser and arrived out wide late afternoon with very little wind, minimal current and the moon rising over the horizon. The fish were biting well straight away but the sharks were thick on most spots which left us with many bitten off heads or completely taken fish. I moved around to many spots during the night well north up along fraser and pulled a good mix of Reds, blue maori cod, snapper, cod, red throat, hussar, moses perch and coronation trout.
We kept fishing throughout the night and found one spot around 2:30am that had a good show of fish on it and produced some quality fish till 6am. We caught snapper, big Jacks, reds, Hussar to 54cm, Cod, red bass, spangled emperor and moses perch. A couple huge cod were caught and released but there must have been some other monster cod there as we were pulling 8-10kg reds with scales missing off them after being eaten by the cod before they were letting them go.
Sharks were also a major problem on this spot but we still managed to pull plenty of fish with every 3rd or 4th fish taken by sharks. By 6am when the sun was coming up the fish went off the chew but we were more than happy with our results and completely buggered from fishing the entire night.
We have been dropping an underwater camera down on most spots during the past few trips and capturing some great footage for my Wickedfishing "Double Island Point & Beyond" DVD. We dropped it down on the spot spoken above to have a look at the bottom structure I picked up on the sounder. It was still very early morning so the lighting wasn’t the best but you could still clearly see a decent sized rock with massive over hangs/caves. We spent the next couple hours dropping the camera down on various spots and captured some great footage which is so interesting to watch. Amazing how many Jacks are on most spots and the life that inhabits these areas is mind blowing. I have also captured footage of the sounder readings while the underwater camera is down there to show people the comparison of underwater video footage and sounder readings at the same time.
For all the good pics and a detailed article get yourself a copy of the next months BushnBeach.
I'm hoping the DVD will be ready sometime next month.
Regards,
Greg Lamprecht.
