you dont need to fish with a fence post, 15-24 will be plenty.

Mate what boat setup you got? Electric reels or man style.

got a 600rf, and planning on doing it without the electric as im not out there to catch heaps of fish, just a bit of fun to start the day off with a drop (only some would call it fun and i might change my mind while im out there). ive got a fin-nor santiago with about 900m of line, on a shimano t-curve, hoping this will do the trick,

when you say 900mts of line what lb?
Have you read all 43 pages?

    Re: Ooglies of the deep.

Yes have read all 43 pages, took a couple of days last year, it's where I got most of my information from about sinkers ( good idea about the rio off-cuts) n what lights to use, strength of line to sinkers, leaders ect. Ill be using 120 lb with 400 lb leader with 80lb going to the sinker

80lb to the sinkers? Are you planning in brining them back up?

Yes as I don't believe in leaving rubish behind while at sea, and if it did get caught it would be the first thing to break. Would only be looking at max of two drops in the right location so wouldn't be a lot of extra weight to bring back up!

Thanks Rabbi and yeah I think we have had too long to think about it rather than just doing it.

I was all keen to go out in about 10 days from now but the site still shows the current roaring from the North and as for the wind - well that can change but the current has been showing strong lines without a let up - so i am not so optimistic. I am keen for 10 days from now or ten days after that - but I need the current to drop first - it's too big a fuel burn for a wasted trip.

Marty the current has been roaring solid for months now and well you know what the wind has been like. I did try a trip about 6-8 weeks back and it was a complete waste with wind and current - so nothing we can do till the conditions allow.

According to the gurus the current should drop back soon - I am watching the site every day hoping in vain at the moment - but patient as i don't want to just throw away fuel and effort.

Thanks for the offer Nicko - still keen if you are.

Brett and Bill - I will let you know if it's a goer - but as above just have to wait and watch for now.

McG have a look in this thread - post 49 will give you some starters
