Lucas - "fact" is truth - any truth in the theory or any truth in the rumour.

Sounds like crap to me - what will kill anything is barotrauma and that is more related to the upper column of water where there are quicker changes in water pressure.

I have heard more to the effect that these will die and float to the surface if lost in the top 80m of ascent - which is true to what I have learnt from scuba diving courses.

Trev ,,how could lucas think that you & I are closet blue supporters I think your on to it about the fish as all the video Ive seen has fish floating on top of the water all blown up due to barotrauma geez were did he get closet blue supporter from

barotrauma was the reasoning behind it and pulling em up quicly in the first 20mts normally kills them and after 200mt they start to float, either way a boat full of Nsw's are going to find out come saturday 7th. cant say the same for the qld boat.
Where do i get the idea? From both of you, 1 has a blue boat the other keeps writting in blue, to me it just seems there is a underlying sense that youse really like the blue colour jersy its nothing to be ashamed off. stand proud boys stand proud

to the ass in the blue boat - barotrauma will only occur in the upper column of water not with a small change in level at the bottom.

In saying that it is the first time i truly looked at your avatar and noticed that your kids are jumping off the roof of the boat... See the attention i pay....
i thought about half way barotrauma would take place, when this bloke told me at the bottom i started questioning myself, thought he may know what he is talking about apparantly not....

One of the first signs that you have got a couple of Blue Eye or Hapuka on is when the line starts to just 'float" up for the last 100M or so, lots of fish are fine to let go, like those shitty Green Eye Sharks, they seemt to survive Ok and just swim down when tossed back, but the other species will be bloated like Blues supporter after a win and a dozen stubbies under his belt! their eyes will be popped out on stalks (the fish that is, not the blues supporters) and will have no hope at all of living, it is very common to "find" a decent fish bobbing around on the surface when a couple of boats are working an area, and the general rule is "finders keepers" for this eason, there is no real need to wildly try to net or gaff a fish, even if it gets off, it will go nowhere, it will just float beside the boat.

With this floating of line, what does that do to the spool when winding in? Looking at it more of having no weight on the line... I could be wrong and there is weight on the line... Not sure what to expect.

OK, lets assume you have a fish on (Blue Eye), there will be plenty of weight and maybe even some fight if it is a decent one, and winding for the first 5 mins (or more) will be hard work, but when it gets near the surface (say less than 100M) the line will go completely slack as the fish bloats up and becomes bouyant, you will be just winding in line, no big deal really, when you do you next drop, the line will just come off as usual. The fish will probably surface some distance from the boat, so be prepared to do a bit of a circle if it pops off the hook.
