    Mud Crabs land based!!!!

    Hey everyone,

I have found a butcher in Wello Point that has fresh chicken frames on demand (The chorizo sausages are to die for also), anyway with the massive overnight tides I crawled amongst the mangroves and found some positive spots.

4 chicken frames at 50 cents each, equalled 5 cracking mudcrabs.... Good deal I'd say!

No photos unfortunately. as my phone is not hooked to internet but I'll take my camera tomorrow to post some photos, and I'll give my view on what works when looking for crabs in the shallows.. (without using your hands aka JUST JACKS)

I'm sure that everyone has there own technique but I'm happy to share info as many on this site have indirectly shared info i've taken on board.

    Cheers

Righto folks (sorry for the delay Bondy) , for some reason I cannot get the video to upload to youtube to post the link of the video. So here is a photo of 2 I got last night! I'll keep trying to upload this vid otherwise I'll have to venture back out and take some still photos next time I put the pots out!

Since I said I'd give my 2 cents worth, here it is,

    1 Tides
I've found that the best tides for land based crabbing are around the full and new moons (large movement of water), It's generally a pretty small window of tides of 2-3 days after the full and new I've found to be productive.

    2. Bait
I use chook frames, cheap easily accessible but you need to rebait every full tide as they don't hold the freshness like fish

    3. Location
I've spoken to others who are crabbing the same area and report no crabs in the area.... I've found to consistently catch a feed, you need to find the crab holes. small puddles of water at the base of large mangroves are generally a good sign of a crab hole. Don't be afraid to leave a pot in open mud flats if there is a crab hole there. look for pushed up piles of mud around the hole, a good sign is if some of the mud is discoloured and looks fresh. generally indicates a hole being worked.

We are onto you mate, you aren't sharing all your secrets...I suspect that emptying a corona or two is part of your technique from the photographic evidence...

    Nice crabs by the way!

haha, yeah mate a corona is step 1a and step 4 of the process. open a corona and consume, repeat as often as needed!
