Yes. Sometimes. Sometimes. Sometimes, well mostly.
The Ausfish M&G will be held at 1770 in September this year, as per usual. So we are locked in to whatever weather we get. The best way to fish the areas around Musgrave & Fitzroy is to head up there when the wind is forecast at 5-10 & dropping. If the weather is good.............GO.
The anchorage in the lagoon is fine but you need to get in there first during daylght & plot a course to your night location if you are planning to do a night entry. Best recon time is at low tide so you can see ALL the bommies. Entrance is marked but the poles are often missing. A good spotlight is handy for this.
The fringe reef is not really a good wave break in heavy weather so you will get bounced around. Hence "sometimes". But see "5-10" & all will be good.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

    Regards,
    Peter

Have Been once and had a spell of 25-35 (gusting 40) for a couple of days most boats bailed out before, just make sure you have heaps of chain, a good anchor and rope, advise above is on the mark as quite large choppy swells were still coming across the lagoon. Didnt fish a lot as concentrated on the snorkelling/exploring, caught plenty of parrot and a few small reds just off the southern fringe(outside the green) lost a few unstoppables and caught a mixed feed the few times i fished further east. Im sure someone here will give you a few starter marks. The lagoon between the faifax islands just over from Musgrave is worth a look also, approach from the n/w corner

Along the lines of above posts, paradise in good weather, but not great in a bit of wind or swell, particularly on high tide. The "beach" is actually rubbly coral and not very boat friendly. Again, in good weather, well worth the run out.

Ps. The photo of my boat on the side here was taken at Lady Musgrave. Another couple of pics. They don't really do the place justice. Taken by a mate with his Iphone with a waterproof case.

Lady Musgrave is a magic spot to stop off, especially if you like snorkelling. Been there a few times and never disappointed (weather permitting of course . Also if you go around turtle time and have a tender to get to the beach, well worth the effort. It's the picture postcard type cay. Just make sure you check where the green zone is if you want to wet a line.
