G'day all,

I've got a fibreglass Len Butterworth FSU 6120 that I've had for years, still got the logo on it.Way back when I was young I cut about 2 inches from the tip and used the blank a few times to cast out shark baits in the deep, closer gutters (ask no questions and I'll tell you no lies ).I'm now looking at making a monster of a surf rod with it.The blank has a yellow fibreglass extension glued into it and is 14 feet 3 inches long overall.I have to cut about 4" off the butt (slight cracking) and will add a wooden plug/spike.The blank is damn strong to say the least but I could put a decent working curve in it with a 7oz grapple sinker and big bait I reckon.I want to use an Abu 10,000 with 30lb line..or even heavier .Will use it on the 90 mile beach here in Victoria for sharks up to 6ft+.I'm a heavily-built bloke and should be able to use it ok...it's a damn weapon.I used to have a 5120 with an extension of 5ft for a total of about 16ft, I learnt to cast with that baby but it got wrecked by some 'creature'...still got the extension that I removed the blanks remains from.I've got a 4120 blank but the long extension won't fit, too wide.

Wondering what would be good guides to use on the 6120?? I'm not a fancy rod builder but built a couple of useful rods wayyy back.I will wrap the extension in cord and then use shrink tube OR maybe some of that cork/rubber wrap? Thinking about using one of the plate reel seats as that's what I used to have.Reel seat will be just above the extension join.

Any ideas gratefully accepted.

Darren
