With the next m&g just around the corner and reading all the bantering going on especially with Tim D , the arti boys and the bait boys I thought I would have a fish with some plastics and see how we go. I was going out with Rosco in propulsion the next day. After telling Rosco I was going to give it a try he said f##k off and nearly banned me from his boat. I needed some form of tactics to convince him to try them so after several hours of feeding him beers he agreed, so I quickly shook his hand and the deal was done. Even had the misses as a witness. As I know nothing about soft plastics it was off to the computer to do some research. Wasn’t long before I found how these plastics came about. The nuclear chicken mated with a squid vicious and out popped a 3” minnow however the streakZ curly tailZ tried to breed with the finger bait but nothing happened. Maybe there’s a valuable lesson there for our younger anglers!!!!!!. Beauty I now know a little bit of how they came about. Now on too rigs and techniques. Bit more googleing and there it is. Simply tie the plastic on with a Murrumbidgee Frog Knot cast into the water, twitch, flick, slow retrieval and cast again. This time you do a bum roll, then jerk (while using the overhand anti splash method) and after a few minutes you should feel a lot more relaxed with this plastics style of fishing. Sounds easy.
Next morning we head out across the bay at warp speed ten not forgetting to bring the misses as she is my star witness. As we slow down I bring out my rods rigged with plastics all from the info I had learnt the night before even right down to the perfectly tied Murrumbidgee Frog Knot. Rosco being a man of his word remembered the deal, (I actually think he was hoping I had forgotten) and agreed to give it a try. I said these plastics should produce some good results and then we can use bait and compare the catch. I was so confident with all the google searching that I pre rigged a nuclear chicken to a skirted lure but it all lead to was disappointment as we trolled for hours with no results.
