Glass-eyed Perch also known as False Barra and Sand Bass vary from light silvery grey to dark brown, sometimes with white vertical bars on their body. The eyes have a glass appearance with a reddish glow, especially when caught at night. The lateral line extends onto the caudal fin and they have one large flat spine at the rear of the pre-operculum. Sand Bass grow to 47cms in length. They are considered average to poor eating. In Australia, Sand Bass are found from Fremantle Western Australia, around the tropical north to southern Queensland, inhabiting rocky or coral reefs, weedy areas, holes and crevices.
cheers
Ahhh... thanks for that.
She was a bit choppy out the front, and water clarity wasn't too bad. First time we'd put in at Seaforth so really just went for a run around to have a look. Popped out the front and trolled down to Redcliffe Island, as the missus doesn't do the rough to well we came back in and went up to the top of Rabbit Is and over to, what I think, was High Islands, there's two of them straight north, we went to the one on the right little further out, this is where we got this fish. Anyway, didn't have much luck up there so made our way back to Newry Island where we got out and had a look at the Camping Area, and then went out around Outer Newry Is.
Not a 'phone home' fishing day, we ended up with a nice Grunter for tea, and had a good day checking things out.
The whole area looks good, we're looking forward to spending some more time there fishing and learning where to go.
