What a sucky night at MUD

Best laid plans all went to crap last night ( 26/4/12) thought i would do a trip over to Mud Island around 4.30 and spend the night on the boat ,get a few fish and head home at 9 am ..
Arrived at Mud southside around 4.30 with no one in site ,anchored up and started to fish. There was a nice 5 knot breeze no real swell so it looked great for a overnighter and the weather reports looked to be spot on ..

Pulled in a few undersize sweetlip and squire in the first hour and that was going to be last good part of the trip , wind started pick up with gusts up over 20 knots the swell picked up and it was getting uncomfortable around 7pm ,so i headed around to the northside of mud out of the breeze and that was good for a few hours but the fishing died off with only a few chopper tailor , stingrays and a few shovelnose sharks being caught ..around midnight the wind change direction and swell picked up again.
I pulled in close to Mud and it was ok , thought it would get me to dawn and i could go back to the southside and try my luck again ..3am brought the rain and that was the last straw ..headed back to manly harbor ,loaded up the boat and headed off home ... my bad luck with Mud doesnt look like it is going to end , 4 trips and only 2 legal fish caught ,,,,,,,,BUT i wont be beaten , back to mud next week for a morning session ,just hope to pick up a feed ....

That's bad luck, glad to hear that you refuse to be beaten though! Hang in there, look forward to hearing your report next week.

Sure sounds like a sucky night z50man but as the weather cools overnight sessions at Mud should pay of with a feed.

My trips are a bit like that at mud but i am finding more fish out wider and at day time but no monsters there for me yet. We spent 10 hours there on anzak day for a feed of just over squire, flattys and a flounder but like you i will keep trying as we decided to spend more time there on next few months as the bonus is its the only place in bay to hook up all morning. Cheers DD.....
