Wrapping a rail with cord

I want to wrap the bow rail with cord so the hatch cover doesn't bang and rub.

My googleing has got me nowhere. I sorta did it this arvo but it isn't right yet.

Does anyone know how, or have a link to wrapping a rail with cord? You know the tightly bound cord that has the ends leading back under the wraps somehow.

I can get the start right with the lead piece running along under the rail for and inch and then half a dozen wraps holding it there.

But when I get to the end I have to bodgey half hitch it. I can't work out how to have it fed back under like the start is.

Any tips would be much appreciated?

(I did buy a hatch slider but the various angles mean it's no good and also the right over on the rail position is best for front end access)

Get a pool noodle for 4 bucks at k Mart split it down one side and put it over the rail. Done

A little longer to tie, but something to be proud of once you're done.

To do it properly the way you are trying, lay the rope along the underside the rail, then loop back along the rail to the start. Wrap around the rail and two loop legs tightly downwards towards the end of the loop, keeping the two legs of the loop nice and straight. On the final wrap, run the tail through the little piece of the loop that is left protruding, and pull the loop tail from the other end very hard. This will pull the loop and tail under the wraps, pulling the whole show tight without the need for any knots.

I am pretty sure I can make a knot called the Dogs Breakfast but I think the Turks Head is beyond me for the moment. 😄
