why are people trying to make an enjoyable activity overcome with legal attitudes. Don;t drink on board and that is most of the dilemma solved. If you cannot go on a fishing trip without having alcohol I think you have mnore probelems that need addressing.
I think it is up to the individuals to do the right thing as well they are in most cases grown adults and should know how to handle them selves.
I don't mind if the boys want to have a beer or two when i take them out all i ask is they keep the level of drinking to a point that if something happened they would still be under the legal limit if an emergency arises where i am hurt or unable to drive the boat or the car i do not want to be stranded there.
This also helps out where is they are driving their own cars from the ramp i know they will be under the limit so far all they biys understand and no one has argued my rules.
My boat my rules i want to go out and have fun not to be looking after drunks.
We are responsible while on the water but when we are out we become responsible as mates.
It all comes down to responsible attitudes.
Duty of care is a requirement of every person regardless of their position
In addition, while you are at it why don’t you have a form to fill out before steeping foot on the boat such as a disclaimer and or a waver. Like pinhead said, no piss on your boat, no problems. I have mates that get smashed while out fishing, I always take 10 liters of water so I’m always the odd one out. I can’t be bothered with legal crap when I go fishing. If your mates cant, control themselves then that’s the last trip they make on your boat. Common sense isn’t common anymore.
Duty of care ends when you kick the drunken bum off your boat
But seriously, dont think I'd like someone "impaired" swing trebles around my head, so I suppose no grog on my boat, not that it matters, me and my mates I fish with dont drink. Only just realised that when I read the thread. Might be hope for Australians yet!
Firstly, many thanks to all that have replied and also to those that have taken the time to have a bit of a read
Let me pls clarify that i do not condone or partake in onboard drinking (or drink driving for that matter) however you cant help but see some boatmen stocking up at the bottleO on the way to the ramp or disposing of copious empties on return ( i suppose in an ironic way that is being responsible lol) .. God help us !!
For me the challenges, responsibility, mateship and pure enjoyment i get out of offshore boating is almost an addiction in its self, and something that i dont take lightly or require/ need the combination of alcohol to enjoy
For me this thread was as much about discussion as awareness, and how an error in judgment could contribute or significantly change the outcome of just goin fishing with a couple of mates
I have been called a nanny, aunty Rod, a girls blouse and all the she'll be rights just for calling a taxi for a mate and his family one night, next day when he picked his car up .. it was as if we had a new respect for each other .. and its that simple .. and thats all i was tryin to put accross because its the step after having a couple onboard that seems to get forgoten
Anyway safe boating to all and regards
Rod
It’s the fish’s fault ….. because they swim in the ocean …..![]()
Alcohol consumption and driving is no different from water and electricity?.....They just don't mix!
LITTLE SKIPPER!
The thing that "dumbfounds me" you see it on the news, on the internet and in the papers about drink driving and drink driving blitzes by the police, yet people still insist on driving a motor vehicle (car or boat) after consuming alcohol.
I guess it's the ones who are too stupid to do the right thing?
