Usually freefall comes with powerout too.
So you have the best of both worlds. I would check the manual first.
As for rope tangles, it's very unlikely, Most anchor winches uses 12mm or 14mm nylon.
Hi I am looking at buying a Lewmar Pro Series anchor winch and from what I can find out is you can either get the winch with Free fall or without.
Does this mean with the free fall option you cannot wind the anchor down slowly with the winch ?[IE free fall only for dropping the winch]
Is free fall the way to go?
my concern with free fall only is what happens if the rope gets in a tangle , I'm guessing a real mess.
Thanks Dave

I've got the Lewmar pro series 700 with freefall hanging off the front of my boat and yes you can switch between freefall and controlled power drop.
Thanks for the fast replies and heads up.
Muddy toes How do you like the winch mate ? do you think the 700 is big enough for an 8kg anchor with chain etc or go for the 1000 ?[only about $200 extra]
Mine doesn't really get a workout mate as I only use it occasionally in the bay and I spend most of my time offshore but I use it with a 22lb Manson plough and 14 meters of 6mm chain and I've had no problems with it.
I lied sorry mate,I think I've got the pro fish.......don't know what the difference is though.
is this the one mate.
i would have to go with the 700 as the 1000 goes over the $1000 free import duty limit [which is $1000 including freight]
Yeah that looks to be the one mate.........I got mine from westmarine.
Not sure what boat you have but the drum winch with free-fall would be my choice.
