    Yamaha 60HP Tiller

Specs of 60HP yamaha tiller (F60CEHTL):
    • Weight - 118kg
    • Displacement - 996 CC
    • Gear Ratio - 1.85:1

Specs of 50HP Yamaha tiller (F50FEHTL):
    • Weight - 114kg
    • Displacement - 996 CC
    • Gear Ratio - 1.85:1

    4.1m Polycraft Hull Specs:
    • Max weight of motor - 120kg (factory spec)
    • Max HP - 60HP (now certified re-rating by marine surveyor)
    • Weight of hull - 280kg (factory spec)

Where does the extra 10HP and weight come from if the displacement and gear box does not change for the 60HP tiller?

Is this extra 10HP worth the extra 4kg at the transom without any difference in output displacement or gearing for my 4.1m polycraft hull?

How will I detect this additional 10HP without increase in displacement?

PS - I have already laid down my deposit for the 60HP yamaha tiller..

    Cost of extra 10HP - $226
Fee for Marine Surveyor - $375

Total additional cost for the additional 10HP = $601.

Go the 60... Max hp is always the best option, I used nick to reposed my boat a few years back from 50 to 70... Top bloke! Cheers

Aaron - where does the extra 10HP come from without any change to displacement from the 50HP?

Is the extra 4kg worth it?

I had a etec and they are the similar I think. The 40,50&60 had a different air intake and a different tuned computer, I think you will find something very similar with the 50,60 & 70.. They all have the same engine and are just tweaked a little more to get the extra kick.. The 70 is 120kg so that's 6kg more than the 50.. Maybe the gears may be slightly different. If your worried about feeling the extra 4kgs don't worry you won't. I went from 50etec - 70 yammi..

    Hi there Splash,
I have been right through the parts book for both motors and the only difference between to two is that the 50hp has a restrictor on the intake and the ecu is different, all other things like the cam, valves, pistons, injectors, manifolds are all the same. So basically to make a 50hp a 60hp you take out the intake restrictor plate and change the ecu, BUT, the problem is, the ecu costs more to replace than the upgrade from a 50 to a 60
If anyone doubts me on this check out the parts book for yourself
    Hope this helps
    Cheers Graeme

    Thanks Aaron and Graeme.

    good advice...

just curious where that extra weight came from if nothing mechanically has changed....??

    Re: Yamaha 60HP Tiller

That’s a good point, I only checked the part numbers for the power head parts, maybe the leg and gear case bits are a little different, I will check this
Also, sometimes when comparing weights of different motors some manufactures quote the weights of their motors dry/ less fluids so you will get some variations in the quoted weights

Splash I may have missed something in previous posts but by the pics of your polycraft why are you going to a tiller when you have a side console?

    Re: Yamaha 60HP Tiller

Just more revs and fuel and air to get the extra 10hp same trick for all the brands.

Yeh well you need to check the facts on that one....... Honda 50 and 60's are completely different models, don't quote me but the suzi maybe different as well.

    Hi Stik.

Yeah - tossed and turned over this one and finally switched to tiller...

Cost - $4.5k cheaper (including cost of pedestal seat, steering wheel, hydraulic steering)
Handling - For my application (fast tidal NT river system), I need more responsive steering
Reliability - Tiller has less components
Lean - The SC version will lean more than the tiller
Clutter - The SC unit causes clutter by default (less with tiller)

I will reheat the polyweld of the SC/hull interface and remove it without cutting into it and then sell it new on ebay/gumtree.

    Hi Stabi.

These figures were obtained from the yamaha australia site where both models are specified with presumably the same system of recording and publishing these figures...
