Thread: AM FM aerials??

    Re: AM FM aerials??

    Guys
I have had one of these aerials for about two years now and it works great, perfect reception inshore and offshore. Cable is about a metre long which you just need to layout and maybe cable tie at the end ot keep it extended.

Moonlighter.....havent been at the boat yet....hopefully this weekend. I like the idea of the stick on windscreen one at 1/3 the price though ...oh well..!
Dont worry, will post a yay or nay as soon as I get to it. Wish I had time to do more on the boat at the moment!

    Re: AM FM aerials??

Guys..sorry about the amazingly late repkly. Have tested the dipole aerial, and (at least in the driveway) it works a treat. Didnt even have to connect the wire to any metal part of the boat, and got good reception. No doubt when connected to, say, a bowrail bolt or some other metal , the reception will be even beter, particularly if you head out a bit. So..., for my $13.00 from IMD sales, I would suggest its worthwhile. No need for expensive splitters, no need for the Oz shaped coat hanger, and no need to stick something on the windscreen. So, if you dont see me on the water, you'll now hear me...radio on full blast!! Great fish attracter. Remember though, I havent trsted it on water (although in the bay reception should be straigh line stuff etc.)

    Re: AM FM aerials??

    A late update....

Had the boat out on Moreton Bay today, and thought I'd turn the radio on to test out the new Dipole antenna.

I am happy to report that FM reception was excellent, got all the expected channels loud and clear.

AM was also pretty good, a bit of interference (tick-tick-tick) which i am pretty sure was the sounder pinging away, but not too bad.

    So overall, very pleased.

PS I installed the antenna and ran the wire up to the underneath of the cabin on my Surtees, found a spot where where I could drill a small hole, and popped a rivet in with the end of the wire under it, so antenna is connected to the alloy cabin structure.

I am now very glad that I got rid of that troublesome VHF/AM/FM band splitter cable thingy.

    Cheers
