Never boring on the Pine River

We headed onto the Pine again this morning...no surprises for anyone in that ...got to the ramp at about 5am (Funchy; you'd had been up for about 3 hours by then!) and found Shawn's car and empty trailer at the ramp, so he had obviously been more dedicated than us too!

Anyway, it was a slow day on the water as far as the fishing went, with only 3 flatties joining us aboard the Bullshark ...however, as always it was great to be on the water.

Today we were privileged to see the moon set...Click image for larger version.

We also went exploring around to Freshwater Creek...bloody shallow entry to that creek, even though it was a pretty high tide when we went in there, but we plotted a path in for future reference.

Hope everyone's Easter is going well

    Nice pics and flathead.

I went for a flick at the bottom of the tide off the bank close to bald hills creek mouth and there were so many jet skis and boats hooning past I knew I had no chance.

On my walk out there I passed two blokes and one was carrying two eskies and had mud all down the right hand side of his shirt.

We said g day and I stated that he had been crabbing (the obvious) and he replied with "naa, I just got dirty" which made me chuckle and I was going to retort with "and those eskies are full of beer, right and you decided to drink in the mangroves."

Also whilst down there two blokes came out of the mangroves in overalls and boots and one looked like he had a metal detector... strange...

And finally two blokes came down and cast netted a heap of mullet even though all these boats and skis were whizzing buy.

I got one of those really slow moving snags that you can't lift from the bottom and sadly had to cut the braid and I really dislike leaving anything in the water ( I don't litter at all ) so I called it a day after that.

Was a bit disappointing seeing all the boats and skis whizzing past and especially the one boat that kept going up and down past the other anchored boats. It was like he was showing off to himself how fast he could go.

Might have to do a dawn trip on Monday.

Oh yeah. I was smirking at how many crab floats I could see out there...

Unsure what time you were up there, but I was up there this morning. Ended up with 6 bream which went well with last nights haul of 12... The entrance is tricky, best bet is to go there at low, or near low tide and you will see where the channel runs... When you get in, go up the creek so you see everything!!

I highly suggest a kayak/canoe or maybe a 10/12 footer... My 4m is a struggle at even 2' of water in the tide.

yeh it is a bit shallow at the entrance there is a channel down the middle just after you go around the island at the front i find sticking to the right hand side after the island at the mouth around the next 2 bends then you are in clear water ,at low tide you used not to be able to get a boat past the second corner due to sand banks after there the middle is fine all the way up

sorry guys i misled you stay to the right hand side not the left after the island

Kingcray and Drifty, We were up there about 9 - 945 ish. Quite a few boats in there fishing in 1 - 1.5m. We didn't go far enough up to reach the deeper water.

Yes mate, I think that I will check it out at a low tide during the day before I try going up there at night at any time in the tide. Our boat is a 4.2 v-nosed punt so can go reasonably shallow but I still think this would be impossible at the bottom of the tide.

Unfortunately life is a bit busy at the moment so we don't have time to do much exploring...hence our current habit of hitting the flats in the pine for 2 or 3 hours then heading home. Hopefully things will clear up in the next few weeks and we will get to give it a decent go.

Chop, we are hoping to be there again on Monday, Will keep an eye out for you.
I have to say that the river wasn't as busy as I thought it would be early in the morning but is was certainly starting to pump with boats and skis by the time we called it quits.
