Prop selection to plane at low speed.

Well I finally got my boat home from Yappoon after having a beering colapse and damaged axle........ I took the boat for a run it has 2 x 75 etecs and plenty of go in it.......but as it is still a tiny I would rather it planed at a lower speed so I can take it easy when conditions are choppy in the bay. I have a few questions.

    1) Having this style of prop will it impact high end speed?
    2) Will it affect fuel economy?
    3) What would anyone recommend? Or who would you recommend to get the job done right the first time?

I have 2 x Stainless Vipper props on there now, but I would prefer some cheapper alloy props and swap them over when I am doing long trips where I cant afford to bang all the way home.

Your imput is appreciated, the boat is in the picture.

    G'day

    More info needed, .....

What RPM are you achieving at WOT? and what's the engine height like?

What are your props now? (diameter and pitch)

How slow and what RPM are you able to plane now?

Didnt think of motor height, I have to take the boat for another run to work that out but yeah I will get that info and come back to you. I have a GPS so that should show me how fast im going when I am just on the plane, I will get the diameter and pitch of the prop and take it for a spin and get RPM at WOT. Thanks for the tips..........Ill be back with this info.........

    nowornever,

Get yourself a couple of them stingray wing things for your outboard legs and just try that out before you go spending big $$$$ on new props, i have one of these and i can cruise along on the plane fairly slowly if i want to, they basically lift the rear of the boat up when travelling thus keeping it on the plane a lot longer and at lower speeds.

You really want to retain your factory top end speed etc because you Will find yourself in a situation where you will need to get outta a situation quickly, and if you change props and lose top end you may just regret it.

Do you get what i am getting at.

    G'day

DO NOT go looking at foils until your motor and props are setup correctly.

Foils are by and large only a band aid solution. If you need to go down the track of a foil, then go for a Permatrim. These extend the actual anti-ventilation plate, actually enhancing it. Not just having some flexible possibly dangerous pieces of plastic out the side.

The LZ foils are a good band aid for only $40. On twins you only need one set and put one on each motor. Come back to us with your RPMs etc. first though. With twins you should be able to plane slower as you will have more bite with your props, so long as it is not overpropped.
