Looking to upgrade from my setup (humminbird 141 colour sounder and lowrance hand held gps) to a combo unit. A good friend of mine has recently upgraded his setup and has offered me first dibs on his eagle 1000 fish strike gps/sounder combo (colour 5" screen) for around $400. Although secondhand I'm sure of the electronics being sound just wanted to know some more details on whether this sounds like a good deal and whether the unit itself is worth going for or should I consider another unit (e.g. I've heard good things about the garmin 441s combo unit for around the same price)........over to you lads!
The Garmin 551 combo is regularly on special for the $700 mark....much better display and probably better specs number of waypoints storage etc. Lowrance Elite 5 series are about 100 dearer and good bits of kit from reports.
