    Hi Mate,

We’ve fish there few times and it’s been a bit hit and miss, but that’s fishing I guess… I think it gets pretty hammered around the holidays times. I’ve only been in Mackay for 18 months so still exploring really. Have had a couple of good Barra sessions up there!! Look out for the rocks in in Victor Creek to!! Plenty of Grassies and small Trout around the island, just make sure you know were the green zones are. We have found a few Tuna at times to along with Golden Trevally, GT, Grunter and planty of Cod. We just find a bit of struckture and give it a go for 30min then move on. I have found the creek fishes best on the run out.

Anyway hope that helps, if I find out anything worth mentioning I post it up here for you.

    Cheers

    Chris

Thanks chris, keep me posted. There are a few calen st helens locals saying the barras are being caught in good numbers. Mostly on livies and thats all youll get out of them. :-) I have tried to offer taking them fishing in my boat to their hotspots alas no takers. Nevermind I will track these phantom fish down(jacks, barra, coral trout, spanish). Give me good weather I'll make the time.

    hi mate,

used to fish Victor and St Helens a little when we lived in Mackay. Can't recall much from Victor Ck - its a bit hit and miss. St Helens was great - scoot across to Jane Creek - there is a rocky/bar hole just inside the mouth which was good for grunter/bream etc. Also - a bucket of yabbies drifting over the sandbars inthat area on an incoming tide will see you loaded up with Trevalley and good whiting. Camped there about 10 years ago, and day fishing was trevalley, and night time on the same sand bar was whiting all about 30 - 38 cm (no exaggeration here). It was a remarkable weeks fishing. pots up any gullies should see u with a feed of crabs, just don't let the pots out of your sight .
