Thread: Whats your offshore boat fuel consumption ?

Re: Whats your offshore boat fuel consumption ?

Have recently changed my prop and lifted my engine up one hole for a pretty decent change in economy. Boat is a Yalta555 with F115 Yamaha. Went from the 17k yammy prop to a 131/4 x 17 Solas new Saturn. Lost about 4-500RPM at WOT but gained a lot better mid range performance. On flat conditions a good cruise is 3900rpm doing 23knots and using 19lph. Went offshore yesterday and it got a bit bumpy on the way home so was doing 3600rpm for 20Kn and using 17-18lph. All up yesterday did 128km on the GPS Trip meter for 61 litres. On average the old prop in same conditions yesterday would have used around the 70-75 litres. WOT now have gained a couple of knots from around 32-33 up to now around 35 at 56-5700rpm and uses 40lph at this.

Quintrex 530 spirit 90 mariner opti run for mba to the banks moved up and down a bit and then home condition werent to bad 1/2 meter chop on a meter to 1 1/2 meter swell. smart craft gagues showed 68 liters for 145 kms , have had the smart craft gagues for just over a year and there always within 1 - 2 litres at the bowser. useally runs in the 1.7 l to the km but since the last serice (100hrs) at bris marine the last 3 trips have been better than 2km to the litre. so I am a happy camper.

Haines Signature 540F with a 115 Merc 4 stroke. Average in all conditions I was getting 2.1 k's per ltr. Have recently upgraded to a 140 Zuk and expect to get 2.2 but with more poke and top end speed.

Cruse craft 685 outsider 250 Suzuki runs at 1.8 L/ nm in good to average ocean conditions at 18 to 22 knots, if you have to drop back below 17 knots runs between 2.2 and 2.8 L/nm.
running around on the bay 1.4 to 1.5 L/mm

5950 Ocean cylinder, 200hp 4 stroke yammie, cruise at 24 knots for 0.8nm per Litre. 45km/ph for 1.5km/l

Heavy sea, bit less 0.6 - 0.7 nm per Litre

Flat out 37 knots, bout 65-70L per hour.

4.3 clarke, with 60 hp yammie 4stroke, holds 110l under floor, doubt I'll ever get through it, 3kms/L

capacity is 600 litres, but for day work, 300 is more than enough so its all I need to carry.

That's just an average trip down here Tony. Nearly 30kms just to get to the bar mate. Then you go fishing!

From what I have heard of this boat with 250 zukes, sounds like something(s) is/are not quite right with your setup Solaris; prop (type/condition), engine height, ??, do you have tabs?

I have the same boat but with an F250 Yam (older 3.3L model). From guys I have spoken to over the years with the same boat but with 250 zukes they were all getting around the same economy/performance as I was.

Worst I have ever got for a heavily loaded o/night trip (250km +) from 1770 was 1.9L/nm including crappy conditions (not the right prop for heavily loaded condition). With different prop(s), but still very heavily loaded (similar trips, and crappy conditions) I normally get 1.7 L/nm or slightly better.

Long day trips from 1770 or BNE (not quite as heavily loaded) 1.5L/nm, maybe 1.4 when conditions are good. Around the bay 1.3 or even 1.2 when only 2-up for a social day trip.

Can't help with prop selections though, gear ratios are different and hence zukes run bigger diameters.
    cheers

23 foot shark cat with 200hp Volvo Penta diesel (nearly refurbished) with A3 duo prop. Last weekend in 10-15 knot conditions went from Mooloolaba to Double Island with 3 people on board, 400 litres of fuel and crap loads of gear. Round trip was about 220km and didnt quite use 200 litres. Cruising speed was about 18-20 knots at 2900 revs. Althought its a bit noisy, dont think I'll every be going back to petrol with those figures!
