    Temporary Repair Advice Needed!!

G'day all, i have a rod that was the first rod i built, 6 foot boat rod, calstar. Anyway, its showing the signs of pain, heaps of guide foot cracking, can even feel the thread through some of those areas, also see that i have some busted thread on one guide, bit of a mess but i guess we all started somewhere. All this a combination of to tight on the binds, not enough grinding on the guide feet and poor epoxy job me thinks, hopefully my latest builds are not in this shape in few years!!

Anyway i'll rebuild it later this year when i get some time, in the meantime i just want to try and help hold the whole show together for a bit given i use this thing all the time (fraser trip looming). What would happen if i cleaned the rod and just stuck another coat of epoxy over the existing binds/epoxy . Wild idea i know, but would it work till i get around to full rebuild??

    Nothing stopping you doing that.
    Not sure I'd bother though.
If you think it's bad enough for a guide to pull off, then I'd re-wrap that guide then do the rest later.
Otherwise, the cracking is only going to let moisture it, so I wouldn't be too worried about that on its own if you plan to re-do it soon anyway.
    Cheers,

I would dab a little bit of Tarzans grip into the cracks and wipe off the excess. It is a clear flexible glue that seals things up nicely without being too noticeable.
As for the rush to get it rebound, personally I would not bother until a guide threatens to let go......I have several that have had epoxy cracks and even exposed threads fraying for well over 7 yrs now and still going fine, just look crappy and it does not affect the action at all.

Or hose clamps, stainless of course. You relly need to cut it off and rebind and coat. I would hate to think if you hooked a good fish only to loose it because a guide popped off.

Thanks fellas, i will get around to a full rebuild at some stage, just wanted to stop it getting worse in case the rebuild is further away than its intended to be! Its double overbound, i think theres only the top layer busted so i recon its got a few decent fish left in her yet.

I haven't tried this myself but use some of the new silicon rescue tape it self binds and takes enormous pressure. I've read about a guy doing this instead of binding.
    Just a thought
