    Question rod repair, your thoughts

    Howd'y

Been asked to repair a broken rod. Broke about half way.

It is an Egrell and owner paid 500 $'s for it.

Instead of making it into a 2 piece, I was considering making the break area a clean cut ( squaring it off ) taking off the butt cap and sliding another piece of old rod down the inside. Making the overlap about 20mm. Then glueing it and run a single wrap of A thread either side and past the join.

    Is my idea OK ?

or do I need to explain it better ?

You will need a bit more than 20 mm overlap, I would aim for at least 30mm. Glue inside and the section that will be stuffed up the guts and when butted up together you want to keep the glue flush with the OD. Once thats set bind A thread as you have said and then coat. Then upone its first cast it will snap, only joking, it will fall apart before it gets near the water.

Doubt it would be the same with another rod in it, though you would probably be able lift a small car with it though.

I broke off 5 inches of the tip of my brand new BSR mossy-back, it was a finesse tip, cleaned up the end and glued on a Fuji from the shop...
Now its a fav plastic rod of mine, can haul 1/4 and 3/8 and 1/2 jigs a mile and has just the right amount of bend it it now to work a plastic around 4,5,6,7 inch plastics.

Been looking for a rod like that for a while and I ended up making one by accident.

Definitely give it a go (though yeah I would try to get as much overlap as possible as this will be the section prone to movement).

    Cheers
