    peel bag out 15/3/12

hi all. out the door at 4 this morn. plan was to drift the west peel arties till the weather sent me home. started drifting at about 5 and was quiet for the first couple of hours with only a small snap and a nice grassie (released) landed. another quiet hour and then a 45 hit the ice. followed shortly after by another the same. next drift and a 40 joins them. then i got an almighty smashing by a fish that took my 6lb set up instead of the 20. took me down to the backing which meant there was just over 200m of braid in the water. lot of weight in him but alas he must have found something sharp as i ended up with only 3 feet of what was a 9 foot leader - only freshly replaced. had a big dummy spit and got back into it. half hour later i notice the deadstick buckling over and got a consolation prize of a 66. gave the 45's away to the only other bloke out there who was vert happy to have em. gave it about another half hour before deciding the weather was looking like it was going to get a bit wetter. happy to report that the water clarity is much better and the jellies have moved on too.

Got to be more than happy with that effort. Pity about the one lost, would have been good just to see what it was.

    Come on Dave,

You can't present a fish you have caught on a deadstick to the public. It's just not right . There is no skill to it. ( it's like using bait )

Congrats on the catch - wish i can be there . I'm in the field of work as you but in a company situation. Bugga

thanks bruce. would have liked to have seen him too. i'm inclined to think it was a big snap from the runs. wish he'd taken the 20 lb gear but every chance if 12 lb leader cut then 20 would have too.

funchy - i didn't know you worked. i thought you was a professional flathead fisho.

    20ran - clearing up nicely

brett - 6lb braid but did the 12lb leader. i've worn out 80+ specimens on the same outfit so i think i may have missed my 90+ unfortunately. maybe another day.

agrav8 and champion - thanks for the kudos.

dick - you know mossy is never allowed near my drag. and he's doing well keeping away from his own too lol.

hahaha. your dead right tim. i felt so guilty i almost threw him back lol. to be honest i have found that through the fastest run period the deadstick has much more skill than i. think it must be the way i put the rod in the holder. nah, really i think it is just because the deadstick lure stays in the zone longer than the one that is being constantly cast and retrieved. if its any consolation the one that got away took the deadstick too. sorry to hear about your work - sounds horrible - i just hate book work.

The big one that got away is what gets you back out there again!!

    Re: peel bag out 15/3/12

thanks rosco but i dont have any bait left. i threw it over the side out the cape when mossy and dick cleaned up on the plastics while i was busy catching grinners and pickers. i will admit that i was using bait but only because dick wasn't and as he was a non-believer i felt it was only fair that he could see the results of bait fished alongside plastic. emphasis on WAS lol. another convert.
when you go trolling for macs every rod you have is a deadstick aint it? same thing just a slower troll and rubber lure instead of metal.
just have to compare on the water one day. and i dont want to pick up any of tims habits either. have you seen what he eats????
    cheers
