    Re: Borroloola/king ash bay

I was there the in April Last year,

The river has a few rock bars but its not to bad, just take your first run up slow until you work it out, ther are some rock bars just up from the boat ramp stick to the far side of river

Barra went off the bite as we arrived as the water temp was dropping 0.5 degree each day, there are plenty of snags, and deep holes, and lots of side creeks, ther are plenty of maps, the entrance can be shallow but the channel is marked with a few sticks,(if they are still there)
the islands are not far out, from KBAY to the river mouth was 45min, then another 45min out to the islands, plenty of jew, blue nose threadfin, cod, and Queenies, the barra are there just got to wake them up when the water is cold, we fished lures and live baits, and got barra on both, but only got 6 barra for the week,
just use your fishing brain and leave your sounder running while your driving aroound, and you will find the spots,

You will be suprised how many boats will be on the river,

Are you camping or staying accomodation, we stayed in accomodation made it so much easier,

    Have fun,

    Re: Borroloola/king ash bay

I live at King Ash Bay. Regular visitor for a several years and have lived here permanently for two years.
Early May is normally a good time. Wet season should be finished, roads easier to navigate and any flooding in the river well past (save a late cyclone). Water temp varies year to year depending on when the cooler nights start.

Barra are available all year. You just have to change your fishing methods with the seasons and circumstances - and work a bit harder at times. I actually prefer fishing for Barra in the dry season when the water is cooler. Much more challenging. One barra flicked up around the snags in the dry gives as much pleasure as six caught trolling in the wet or build up, but that's just me.

Last year we started a new fishing comp, based around a week-long 'Fishing Festival' in the first week of May. Still developing, but enough on to interest most people. Apart from the fishing comp, we have the King Ash Bay Triathlon. This event, competed for in teams of four, has three gruelling segments. Darts are played at the bar on the night before the other two events, which are Golf in the morning and carpet bowls (again at the bar) on the second day of competition. If you are into triathlons, you should start training now. Golf!! Yes we have a six hole course. Three rounds for 18 or (more commonly) 6 + 3 for a 9 hole round.

If you have not done so, check out our new web site. Design and structure by my son, content and maintenance by me. Still under development, but enough info to be worth a look. Not much on the fishing comps on there yet. As details are confirmed for this year, I'll put up more info - hopefully within a couple of weeks.

Details on camping and accommodation available on the web site. Any specific questions, just ask via forum or PM.

Hope you enjoy your visit. Look me up for a beer and a chat. Ask at the office, the Servo or the bar. They all know where to find me.

We fished from kab all the way to the top of north island and over to the bottom of vanderlin. Will send ya a pm with my number if u wanna have a chat and I'll fill u in on all the details where we went.

    Cheers from boony
Fishing can be defined as "A jerk on one end of the rod, waiting for a jerk on the other".
"Fishing was around along time before you darling"
