    Peel snapps screen shots.

Here are a few screen shots i took on the Lowrance hds units from the 2 sessions on sunday and monday mornings.

Shot 1.has a large amount of scattered fish to the left of the boat and a couple just to the right. also picking up fish holding close to the bottom on the downscan.

Shot 2. has scattered fish to the left again and a small tighter school to the right there is some small bait schools holding high in the water colum.

shot 3. school of fish to the left and downscan showing fish tight to the bottom. the bottom is reasonably flat here it just shows the undulating bottom from the boat moving up and down with the chop.

Shot 4. Scattered fish to left of boat and some being picked up in the down scan.

shot 5. School of snapper holding tight together half way up the left hand side 60-70ft out. there are a few scattered fish just below and just above the tight fish aswell.

shot 6. large tight school of snapper from 60-100ft out left side of boat. scattered fish below them aswell.

Shot 7. this is a great shot. It has a school of snapper down the bottom left hand side. A school of snapper halfway up the right hand side and has a big school of jew fish just coming onto the screen on the top left hand side. there are scattered fish all over this shot.

Hope these shots help the guys that were asking about them. If you have any other questions about the shots, just ask and ill do my best to clarify for you.

    Cheers Whytey

geez whytey. have you got a degree in reading these things? i really must go see the opto and get some glasses lol. buggered if i can see anything that makes any sense to me. only parts that i can make out are the small fuzzy bits showing on the far right of your screen. they look like prawns on my humminbird and dsi units lol. guess i would have to read the hds manual to try to work it out. thanks for the puzzle anyways.

No degree Davo. just use it all the time. haha. when i first got the units i just took the units over ground i know pretty well.this gave me an insight into what the rocks and different bootms look like.

With these shots i have the side imaging set at 100ft out each side of the boat. this is the width i like to run when serching for fish in the 30-50ft depth range. obviously the closer you bring in the width of the screen the more detail you get with the fish and bottom structures.

on the lowrance units i look for things that look like bright grains of rice. if the fish are up off the bottom they will throw a bigger shadow behind them. the best advice i was given when i first got the units, was that imagine its like a torch pointed out to the left and one out to the right and it flickers on and off really fast and snaps pictures at the same time. You could even get a torch at home and point it at things close to the wall and thing far away from a wall and this will give you an idea of how things will show up on your sounder screens.

Im not sure if thats going to help you or confuse you more. It make sense to me (sort of) hahahaha I find it easier to explain in person were i can point out things on the screen.

    hope that helps

    Cheers Whytey

these are all the same photos just with differnt explanations on them hope it makes it a bit easier to understand. if you look at the edges of the scools you can make out the individual fish.

thanks whytey. that makes it a lot clearer. i do need glasses. those fish are even smaller than the prawns on my units lol. in fact i may need binoculars to see those suckers. maybe one day when youre down a deckie you can show me up close

    Re: Peel snapps screen shots.

Dave the only reason they are showing so small is because of the width i have on the side scan. You have to imagine that from that centre line looking both left and right is 100ft. So across the width of the screen is showing 200ft off the ocean floor. So when you put that into perspective it makes you realise that most of the fish showing in these shots are all on the larger side.

I usually use this distance to scout fish and if looking for more deffinition i step the width of the screen in to say 50-60ft each side of the boat for this depth of water. The more you zoom in the greater the detail, but obviously not covering as much of the ocean floor. Glad it helped you out a bit.

As for the decky spot mate ill let ya know when im flying solo next.

righto, that makes sense. while i'm zooming in for prawns, your zooming out to see further afield. still, you must have keen eyes mate. i am impressed and will look forward to a one on one. dont know what my missus will think when i tell her i need yet another sounder tho
    thanks for your efforts

    Re: Peel snapps screen shots.

Thanks for this thread and explanation. A question - the circled fish look like shadows??? Or are they the actual fish. I am getting HDS LSS put on the new boats, so am trying to grasp any info available in understanding them.

    Thanks
    Steve

Cool pics bro. Did you catch any fish?

    Re: Peel snapps screen shots.

Dave you can never have enough screens. ive got 3 and would like another bigger one but dont think that would go down too well with my missus!

Steve there are some shadows in some of the circles and fish in them aswell. A more zoomed in shot would show it alot better.

Linedropper yeah we got into some nice snapps probably should have pu this on the end of that thread but heres the link if you havent seen it yet http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/sho...15-peel-snapps.

These side imaging sounders are incredible, i have owned a HDS 10 for 6 months now
and i am finding the results mind blowing.
I will show a couple of screen shots i took while at Peter Faust Dam a few months ago
and interpret them for you. The shots are of barra and bait fish
