    my last few trips

    Hi guys n gals,
Been quite a while since I posted a report, 20/05/2011 according to my profile, just been lazy I guess and fishing trips have been few and far between due to work and weather and my rekindled interest in Australian Native aquarium fish

So Ill start with what I remember and go from there.

Did a few trips up to Bribie on a weekend with people everywhere and it still amazes me how easy it is to catch flathead up there even off the bank on plastics. Went up for lunch and walk with my partner a few times, had a few flicks for about an hour near the bridge and got 10 between us all legal with biggest going 74cm. Lure that stood out tho was a Bass grub on a 9gm squidgy head. The other days we still caught a good feed and good fish in quite a short time. Will do a video one day soon hopefully.
Been over to Moreton with my partner twice too before Xmas with the odd kingfish still around at Curtin reef and even Tangalooma Jetty, made a video catching pike there too.

Catching a few bass and yellowbelly at Youngs crossing the last couple of weeks too just off the shore. Seen some nice 50cm+ bass come out and 60cm+ yellowbelly too. Most of ours were between 30 and 40cm. see pics

My boy Kaimen has just got his license and has been going to Scarborough fishing at night in the marina and catching some really nice blue nose bream on bread. Great fun on light gear.

Went across with a couple of mates to Tangalooma for a night fish last week around the wrecks and found it very hard to get livebait, we did a get a few livies eventually and a few nice squid, pulled a very nice cod about 15kg, some small sweetlip, small squire and a few wobbegong sharks.

Finally yesterday took my partner and my daughter and her friend across to Tangalooma for a snorkel, fish and just a day out. Decided to do some squidding as we got a few last week and the girls just love it, easy to do, very visual and a scary element involved too not to mention they taste great. We ended up with 9 squid and an octopus and grinners hitting the jigs destroying them by ripping the cloth off them (those things are such a pain at the best of times).

Snorkelling was hard as there was blue jellyfish everywhere and while not too bad they do sting a bit, enough to annoy you. Also blue bottles moved in around high tide with the NW wind making it almost impossible to swim.
At lunch we stopped at Cowan point for a rest and a bite to eat, I waded out to the boat to get a drink I forgot and was intently watching for bluebottles floating past when I looked up to the boat and there was a dolphin just sitting there 2meters away just looking at me, yelled out to the girls and they came down, it hung around for a while just looking at us swimming and then went up the beach met another with a baby and came back, at one stage both dolphins were swimming around and inbetween us with the baby nowhere to be seen. Got some video but is on my partners camera and will post it up as soon as I am able to get it.

Some bad pics here but am saving for a new camera as mine is broken.
    any comments suggestions questions welcome

a wobbegong shark at Bulwer wrecks, taken with my partners waterproof camera. Will post video soon too.
And a pic of how close the dolphins were.

    cheers

There are some really nice rainbows in the NT- not sure what type though. We used to go round at night scoop netting for cherabin and find all sorts of weird freshwater fish species... and sometimes reptiles too.

    Cheers
