Barron River - Cairns
Well Ive been in Cairns for 1 month now and thought its time to hire a boat with the family and see if we can catch a feed......
Left from the boat ramp under the Bruce Hwy and headed out to the mouth of the river, plan was to target some salmon which apparently are biting at the moment, not much action up at the mouth so we headed back up river to fish the washout of a little creek on the outgoing tide. Caught a couple of 30cm Jacks, then got a massive Sting Ray, beautiful colours on it too, a green base with blue spots.
Time was nearly up so had to head back to the ramp, stopped and pulled in the crab pots (not a thing ) then anchored under the highway bridge to kill the last 30 mins of hire time, hooked onto quite a large Jack but lost it at the side of the boat unfortunately.......
So didnt take anything home but a heap of fun and cant wait to get my own boat up here. Loving FNQ
Oh Yeah, the missus was trying to reel something in for about 15 mins, ended up being the anchor rope....gave me a chuckle. lol
