    Talking to Myself

    So, I lied.... Sorry!
I had every intention of trying that new spot but I got my hands on some of them Zman plastics and I said to myself, "Self, you need to try them in a spot you are fimilar with so you can compare". All very scientific you know

So I got up at 3am blah blah blah fishing by 3:30am. Within 3 casts I was on. I said to myself, "Self, this is alright!!". He was about 25cm and went back in, but what a good start?? Then about 3 casts later and whack, I am on again. I said to myself, "Self, How good is this? Now we know what the blokes have been on about!!!".
This guy was a carbon copy of the first and he went back but hey, a great start. I said to my self, "Self if this keeps up you'll be home before 5am!!!"

Alas that was it. I threw that thing in non stop from 3:35am to 5:20am for not a touch!!! I said to myself, "Self, you can pack up and try the Pelican Waters Canal inlet like you intended or you can try a Gulp?"...... On went a Gulp Grub Tail Minnow.

After about 10 casts thud......"Selllllllfffffff, count to 5 slowly .... 1.... 2.... 3.... 4.... 5..... yes!!!!!!!". Finally I was on! He wasn't huge but there was a strong tidal run and he used it to his advantage and gave a great account of himself! I got the lips grips on him and said to myself, "Self, that was hard work!" hahahaaa. He went 51cms and in to the keeper bag.

Anyway, I kept throwing in but I had missed the bite window I think. About then the water started to look a little p!ssed and Huey said "Here it comes". I hadn't felt rain that hard since I lived up north.

5 mins later it was all over. Then the sun poked it's head out and the sea calmed. The rainbow in this photo has not been enhanced (other than to crop it). Interesting how the sky on the inner side of the rainbow appears brighter than the outer?

Anyway, I was wet and not getting any bites so I said to myself, "Self, lets go show the girls this fish and have a warm cuppa"

P.S. Here is a pic of the flatty fillets we had for lasts nights dinner. (Gotta love Micks beer batter recipe)

    Thanks SPD,
I must admit I do get more bites right on sunrise but I have got the big ones when it is still dark right before sunrise. I have been very lucky getting at least 1 good fish per session.

hahaha. good one "self". you know the only real way to compare is to use more than 1 type at the same time. i did check this out as i said i would and they pretty much had the same interest. using them individually doesn't confirm any preference as the fish may have just moved where you cast and may haps would have been caught on the other variety had you been using it at the time in that spot.
    cheers

Yeah, cheers Davo. I reckon they will do the trick. I think I was always gonna struggle with that run in the tide and it was pretty windy too. I will try them again in the morning. I need someone to fish with me in my spot at the same time to compare I think. Any takers out there?

dont think that will be any more scientific funchy. just tie another hook onto your leader 3 foot above your jighead and give it a reasonable amount of time. still catch like that. i noticed no difference in bites between the 2 jig deadstick and the single jig rod in the hand when i tried it. might look a bit funny to us but i dont think the fish have any problem with it. give it a whirl. worst thing that can happen is you dont catch on either. never know, self might end up with a larger zman collection
