Top shelf work again Willo! Have been looking at those particular blanks as a potential alternative to traditional Sabre/Calstar standup tuna shorts. Any thoughts?

Mate I'm a big fan of the Phenix range
Havent built on a Sabre ...But have a Calstar Garfighter 700m 20 -50lb Blank...But rec line weight is 25-30lb
To me the Calstar has a softer action and is less responsive than the Phenix Hybrid
If ya after power & feel.. go the Phenix Hybrid
    Just my 10 cents worth..LOL
Not taking anything away from the Calstar range... just completly different Blanks
    Willo

PS Actual goin to start takin a pic of the rods I build from now on ,loaded up to compare blank actions

Thanks for that Willo. The Calstar and Sabre (now Seeker) stand-up tuna blanks have managed to maintain a very strong reputation for a long time now, and I find it somewhat surprising that there hasn't been any great leaps forward in the technology of these blank styles (probably because they still sell like hotcakes). I'm also a big fan of Phenix and the materials they use in their blanks and would love it if they produced a blank with a similar action to the Calstars, but with the increased responsiveness and lifting power thrown in. However, it's a real shame that there is no pictorial catalogue of different blank actions, particularly given their cost. That applies to all blank manufacturers. And it's not like every local tackleshop has an extensive range of blanks (if any) to try them out first hand.

Like you Willo, I'm also starting to accrue some pics of my builds loaded up. Maybe there's room for a rodbuilder database of blank actions somewhere?

That looks good loaded Willo, a spiril build i see,i suppose for such a heavy rod ,building it this way would take the strain off the over head reel,as in wanting to twist or roll in you hand opposed to a normal overhead guide configeration.
