    Double island Point Mulloway

    Hi all,
Weather permitting we are going for a camp at double island point on the beach. As their is not really any tailor about the only fun fish i can think of to target would be jew. Time would not be a problem cause i could leave the rod in a rod holder and sit up at the site until some action. Has anyone fished this stretch of beach, this time of year and will my requirements be met. Any help would be highly appreciated! I would be using a fresh mullet about 25cm long that have been on ice from my mates live tank before we leave. Two 8/0 Gama octo hooks, 15kg tough leader, ezy clip running to a swivel with a star sinker. Even if you have not attempted or caught a Jew of Double island will my method still work? Would love to hear any advice on what others do in the same area (beaches around the sunny coast)

    Cheers FW

Just be aware FW when a jewie hits it can all turn nasty real quick. They will slam a bait run hard then stop then run hard again - if you have an alvey or overhead sitting in a rod holder a "birds-nest" will see the lot go to sea real fast.

A smart tentative jewie will need to be fed the line gently too and once he is sure it is a good feed he is gone.

Sounds like you are targeting the bigger fish.

Sinker weight is dependant upon wash and drift - I have always used ball weights and stayed with the bait.

15kg is light and I would say minimum for a bigger jewie - I used 45-55lb line - the jewies targeted were 30lb to 70lb fish.

Have done many hours of jew fishing over the years from beach and rocky headland but not the stretch you are looking at.

I used to think burley was worth it too but it attracted more sharks and rays.

Only tip for catching a jewie is perseverance - quitters rarely succeed.

There is a good video on brownies coastwatch fishing videos on jewfishing the beach - recommend it "jew off the beach - Don Williams"
    Cheers

Sounds good but hold ya rod mate. Most big jew bites i have had off the beach have come toward me initially and you have to catch up to them and set the hook. As trev said 30lb leader is pretty light, they dont have cutting teeth but 30lb pinging over the teeth of a big jew under decent drag would have me worrying. Ben
