    Wink Help with reel upkeep

    Hi Fellas

I have always been an Alvey man. Got one for my 21st birthday and a week later my girlfriend at the time ran it over in her Datsun Insult. 21 years later and it's still going strong. Any time it feels like it's running a little ruff I just dip it in the water. But...... (god lord I never thought I would be writting stuff like this)..... I have this new addiction to SP's and have aquired a few reels whilst in the USA and I have no idea on how to grease and oil change em. Can anyone suggest how I take care of them? Do I take em to the local tackle shop for a lube like I would my car or what?

I have been giving them a thorough fresh water hosing after each use but I notice 1 of em getting a little sticky when going to use it each time. (It frees up after a little cajolling)

I have an Accurist, a Pflueger and Penn spin outfits and a Caenan baitcaster.

Any help for a "Flash reel" Newby would be really appreciated!

From 1 Alvey man to another.....you will go through about 1,300,000 "Flash" reels before your oldest Alvey breaks,,,,and by breaking I mean you accidentally drop it and it gets run over by a truck!!!

Have a look at Alan Tani site and check out a few similiar reels. You will get the idea from what he does. Make sure the bearings are lubricated and plenty of grease in the gearcase
