Ah yes the freind that wants a rod to chase mud skippers and then 1000lb marlin all on the same rod. I wish I had a dollar or two for every time I was asked that. I would say some of the Calstar blanks are fairly nice and would fit the bill. I would have a look at the Calstar GF in 7ft and 8ft blanks from Garry Howard in Brendale Brisbane, fairly cheap as well. If you have a talk to him he will also sell you the components and grips to suite. Also Ross from rodworks in SA, I belive he has a pretty good stock of that gear as well.

Thanks for the help,i will give Gary a call,it's hard to work out what you should use when they want to use it for both.(mud skipper or marlin)

Re: Mates new rod
I have a Calstar GF 700M that wears a Saltiga Blast. I built it for a heavy spinning outfit, but it's very versatile. It's a bit more "handy" in the boat since I accidentally snapped the tip off. Can still cast with it but has definately lost some of it's edge for land based casting.
The action might be a little fast for mudskippers though
