    Fish ID - Nerang River

Hey Guys, went out tonight in nerang river, had a bit of fun with a few mates. Picked up this unusual looking fish that none of us had any idea about what it was. Wondering if someone could shed some light on the species. It was really dark, caught in a deep area of the river (7m), razor sharp gills, blubber lip mouth (no teeth) and was a very solid fish.

We also caught a few big bream and big whiting and had a good night.

    Thanks Guys.

Yeah mate its a Blubber Lip Bream. From the morwong family not real good on the chew though. I got one up the coast a couple of years ago that would have been 2-3kg fought pretty well though..

Brown Sweetlip or blubberlip bream, Mother-In-Law fish mediocre crab bait cats don't mind eating a little of it. Cook with horse dung to give some flavour.

Hey guys, ended up having a taste and found that it was definitely not terrible to eat. Wouldnt be in my top few but not as bad as i was expecting, cooked with salt, pepper, lemon and chili.

Mitch92 is spot on, if you bleed straight away they are ok. I've had worse fish.
