    Navman repairs

Any ideas where I can get a Navman plotter repaired? I phoned the Navico guys and was told that Navman/Northstar are not made any more and they can't repair them.

Chuck it in the bin and get a garmin, not trying to be funny, after much frustration that's what I ended up havng to do.

Had the same experience, and that was when Navman were functional, sent my three year old unit to Sydney and was told it required a new circuit board at some ridiculous price, got them to return the unit, went on the net, which guided me on how to reset the electronics, which I did,and though Ive since sold that boat the unit is still operational, but never bought another Navman or Northstar since,so with that type of after sales service I was not surprised when they put up the shutters

There's a lot around on secondhand boats so they did a lot of sales here once. Everyone says to bin them so I discount any boat with a navman set up.

Thanks for the advice guys, the set is working apart from the screen being dim and hard to see.
I am transferring my marks onto a Simrad unit that already on the boat. I will replace it when that is complete but can't help feeling that there is a little electronics outfit somewhere that still does repairs.

Sounds like the backlight has killed itself, I saw a way of repairing it on YouTube a while ago .i had problems twice with mine when the kiwis owned the company and I got great service from them but navico want no more to do with them . My 5500i is 8 yrs old now and still working great but when it dies I will probably go a garmin .... Matt

    Thanks Matt,

I will check out YouTube, like you I have found it to be a good set (until now), it sounds like Garmin are the current favourites lets hope they stay in business.

There is a dedicated site to fixing navman problems. I saw it mentioned on the Mr Fisho forum. The guy who put it up was shot down quickly and told the best place for his unit was the cupboard. If you do an advanced search there you'll find it.

    Thanks for that Jack,

That guy really got hammered on Mr Fisho site, I'm glad Ausfish users are a lot more helpful. I will try www.justanswers.com and see what I get.

    Cheers, Rog
