    gettin muddy for the muddies

been a while since i have done a report as doing a bit of work gettin the kc ready for xmas, yesterday arvo me and the young fella took a few pots down the local creek i grew up near in the hope for a few muddies for lunch today, was the 1st time the youngfella had walked the mangroves to set crab pots and boy did he end up covered from head to toe but he loved every bit of it.we set 4 pots in spots where i used to set my pots 20yrs ago and i guess there still there.ended up with 4 good keepers but the best thing a fisho likes to see is the amount of little muddies caught and set free till they reach legal size.out of the 4 pots we got 28 muddies 4 being legal.all caught on reef fish frames.see how i go this arvo

Very nice. Good to see the young fella growing up like his dad. You sure know how to nail those crabs.

yeah millsy, been a long time since i had done that, brings back alot of memories thats for sure.i guess having a boat spoils us in some ways

Rosco nice reward for the old school methods of walking the banks. I Like the way how you mentioned about having a boat, and how it spoils you in a way. Taking the young bloke back too the grass root's of fishing always leaves a lasting impression. I treasure those days when my dad let me hold the bucket while he pumped the flats for nipper's.
The recent rain has given the muddies the munchies. I was out at my usual haunts Friday night. did well with 6x keepers, heaviest was 1.5kg. It was a long night in a Barra canoe with the mozzies trying to pick you up,... and the rain washing away fatigue.
Oh yeah good to see the Fisheries on the job!! I got checked out on daybreak. Always a pleasure Davo.
Enjoy the rewards of the trip!
    Cheers,
    Gavin.

Well done mate sounds like the young fella had a ball and you guys sure have a nice feed of crab there. Nothing like sloshing around in the mangroves to liven up your day, thanks for the report i might give it a go myself when I fly home its been along time since I have played in that creek as well.

Good to hear the muddies are on the move again Rosco. I hope the young fellow was wearing booties in the mud as there can be all sorts of sharp objects in mud and sand. I was cut up from broken tiles/glass on the weekend at South straddy - note to self....always wear foot protection.

Not trying to hijack the thread here but as Wags said foot protection is soooooo important when walking through mud and sand. My brother in law kicked a needle a few years back walking the beach at scarborough on an early morning fishing trip. He had to have multiple blood tests over the next 2 years to be given an all clear that he hadn't picked up any nasty diseases. Not to mention the stress that it put him under for this time and of course the need to go back to using raincoats in the cot after 20 years of marriage.

thanks rosco, was thinking of giving tinny creek a run. haven't seen too many pots when crossing the bridge lately. but i will be sure to poke my nose into lota if i cant get any up there. gotta feeling where your talking about the boat wont go tho - might be a bridge in the way. no doubt why you got so muddy.

    cheers
