Cool Deep Water Bend Pine River

I am a comitted crabber and flathead chaser! I haven't had much luck around deep water bend this year, I am hoping someone can give me a few ideas of where is best to put my crab pots in the pine and catch some flatty.

I'm also curious to hear what everyone is using for bait in pots?? For years I've been using mullet...

    Peace

Went crabbing in the Pine two weeks ago with two mates and 12 pots (three of us). Caught 11 legal bucks and plenty of big jennies which were quickly released. One pot had eight crabs in it and some nil so it depends on where you place them. If you have a sounder on your boat look for the deeper holes. Mullet frames are the best bait but we had frames of reef fish saved up from a number of offshore trips.

    Cheers

Im not sure about the crabs mate but i was getting plenty of flat head at the mouth of bald hills creek earlier this year,i would go out for a hour after work and usually bring home 3-4 a night with plenty released, biggest was 83cm,using 1/8-1/4 jig head and gulp 4" grubs in grey.

I've only ventured to the pine once at that was on my exploration mission as I was only fishing land based. That was about 3 weeks ago, and found a decent school sitting on the inside of one of the river bends, down where it had started to get a bit muddier. Caught a few and lost a couple but ultimately wasn't prepared for fishing in that depth of mud. 3" Zman Nuclear Chicken prawn (although think they call the colour something different)

Caught a few from land around the mouth of the pine on 4" shrimps in mango ripple glow also had all of the tails chomped off now. Fished for 3 hours this morning for zilch around there. Some people fishing with worms caught some very small whiting and bream.

Keep a close eye on your pots !
anyone crabbing the pine should consider themselves having had an exceptional day just getting your pots back in one peice. the norm is looking up high in the mangroves to find your float and cut rope and then trying to remember where your pot was or has been thrown.usually it`s been taken . I hope these clowns/clown gets clipped soon as i`ll be just running them down in my platey and asking questions later.

Thing to remember with the pine is the limited commercial fishing boundries. So from the pine river bridge to castle hill, and up the south pine until the gravel banks. if you leave you pots over night either side here, it will get run over by the trawler. hence way you see so many floats up in the mangroves along this stretch. aim your platey for the little green trawler fella.

    cheers

overfished and smashed, why bother, the pine has more hooks than fish.

^^Totally disagree with that statement! Never usually have too much trouble finding a feed - just got to know where to look.

You're 100% right on the money there mate. Don't waste your time, definately no crabs, fish or prawns in that river, it's just not worth yours or anybody else's effort, best find somewhere else.....

I hit the Pine yesterday morning with Sandbank Magnet for a quick soak of the pots, ended up with 2 muddies and 5 sandies. A mate in another tinny got 2 muddies and 2 sandies - Hardly worth going...
