    Installing a VSR

There have been a few writings recently on these forums about dual battery installations and installing a VSR and a few problems are being experienced,I have a couple of notes which may help to alleviate these problems in particular chatter, and the second battery not charging.
These notes in particular refer to the BEP VSR which have no voltage adjustment and are therefore critical as to where they are mounted.
These units cut in at 13.7v and MUST therefore be mounted as close as possible to the START battery otherwise the voltage drops in the connecting cable may be such that the unit will NEVER see 13.7v and will never switch over to the second battery,(it is not such a big problem if you have nothing else drawing current from your start battery to cause voltage drops but is is good practice anyway.)Likewise if you are running three banks of batteries then the second vsr should also be mounted as close as possible to the battery that it is sensing, following the above practice will generally alleviate chatttterrrring.
The second point I would like to make is about the connections on the base of the VSR.There are three cables leaving the base of the VSR,two red and one black, the black is earth and must be connected to -ve for the unit to function. The red nearest to the black is the sense input and should be connected to the battery that you want charged first,in most cases this is the start battery-get these two reds reversed and you will have your house battery charged first with the start battery as priority 2.

I have a message for BEP label your connections and put an adjustment on the voltage switch point, these two things will improve your product out of sight.(There are opposition product which do both of these things)
