Hi all I have a Signature 630LE and am having trouble holding the bottom with my sounder, I have repositioned the transducer (p66) a couple of times but no better. This boat has a fairly unusual under hull shape and its hard to now what to do next.
I notice another thread on here has had a simular problem and made up a sliding bracket to run the transducer maybe 5 or 6 inches under the water and now holds a good picture at speed.
Is this ok to do....... or are there any problems running the transducer deeper than normal.
All help greatly appreciated.

No trouble running them deep it's just the rooster tail they throw up thats a PITA and will more than likely spray the engine with sea water and get sucked into the cowling of the outboard,@ 5-6 inches underwater you must be getting some sort of rooster tail at speed happening?Have you considered a through hull tranny?

can you take a pic of the location and the hull bottom. When underway can you see if there are clean water spots that the tranny can be mounted in?

How much lower is the rear of the transducer than the front / leading edge? IME just pushing the rear down a few more degrees can make a worthwhile difference due to better hydraulic flow across the bottom of the P66.

I googled up a pic to see what it looked like copie & you're right it's special.
I think mounting your transducer right at the bottom of one of those 'lumps' would work really well, where have you tried so far?

Another question, while I was googling I came across a thread that mentioned a venturi hole in the centre lump do you have that?
It's not unheard of to aerate under a hull but I've never seen it before and wouldn't mind a couple of pics.

Here are a couple of photos not sure if you can get the complexity of the hull at the rear from what Iv'e taken. Keeping in mind I am also trying to keep the amount of holes drilled to a minium.

Good shots Copie. I believe you will need to shift the tranny to the other side of the speed sensor or shoot through from a spot infront of that funny cut out. air will gather in there and spoil your fun

I'd put it exactly where the sensor is and as low as it can be while still keeping the square corners of the base plate level with the bottom of the hull or a just a fraction higher.

Leave the sensor off until you get the transducer sorted.

The only thing I'd be worries about is getting the leading edge of the transducer face below the pointy part of the hull but it looks like it would be OK before the mounting edges started to stick out at the corners.

Is that the venturi hole just aft of the bung copie?

I read that without the venturi they were sucking themselves to the water, weird stuff.

Could I suggest mounting the P66 on the starboard side of the engine. A standard rotation prop will always create a lot of turbulence on the port side. You may need to relocate your bait tank pump as looks like a suitable area for the P66.

Hey guys all the suggestions so far I have considered....... I agree its on the wrong side of the engine but its a big job to swap everything side for side. The only thing stopping me from putting it where that silly speed sensor is the fact of more holes without the guarantee of the result required.
Fed directly in front of the engine as part of the boats construction is a hollow area but open at the rear as seen in the photos and also open on the bottom just behind the drain bung, not quiet sure what its all about.
Please keep up with all the suggestions as this is realy p!$$ me off not have a good pic or any pic at speed.

hi mark i have a 1996 signature 550 and it was a pain in the ar$e to get the transducer reading well without a massive rooster tail but finally i got it to read bottom even up to 70kmh. ive tried to attach a pic hope it works

my set-up is a lowrance hds 5 but the position is the same as a mates 1850LE. its now mounted on the right hand side where there was a speed pick-up sensor originally hence the extra hole up top.

Copie, I think that is possibly the best option as in Swanies pic. I'd go where the speed sensor is. I cant see how it could work any where near that cut out

I'm not so sure there is a right and a wrong side, traditionally people put them on the starboard side but I don't think it makes one bit of difference.
Maybe if you drive around in reverse a lot it might make a difference.
but while you're going forward the transducer will always be in front of the prop.
You've gotta be happy with 70kmh Swanie.
