    shrimp

    can anyone tell me what bait to use for shrimp i know any type of fish will work but dont want to use it because of eels they make a mess of my traps so am after a fruit or soap bait

    I remember as a young bloke baiting my nets with mum's Sunlight Velvet Soap up in the north of WA and catching heaps of prawns off the jetty at Derby.

    Should work, it is mainly tallow and coconut oil

    Yeah sunlight will work. I think it is the only pure soap you can buy these days. My favourite shrimp bait though is cooked chook and I use the steel cylindrical style traps that are eel proof. They are fairly common now and are similar in price to the collapsible traps.

    I saw on another forum a few guys were making bait traps out of two wire waste paper baskets zip tied together with half coke bottles for funnels cut into the ends and pop rivetted in place. We always used chook or bits of meat for bait this is the first I have about soap baits.
