Lady Musgrave 1770

we are heading there next week about 22 Nov for a spot of fishing and cruising. Ex Urangan Marina. our call sign Nomad. We will be looking for a mooring, but happy to anchor if none available. As I haven’t been there before, am happy to take any advice on board. If time and weather permits, we may continue to Fitzroy. May have to stop on the way back for fuel (diesel) depending on trolling and cruising, can I get some at 1770?

G'day Wayne, not sure if diesel is available there and their is normally plenty of room to anchor in round hill creek.

I'll be up there towards the end of next week and i'm pretty sure the coral fin fish closure starts on the 22nd.

I would check the dpi site for closure dates.

One would normally sit on their own anchor inside Lady Musgrave Lagoon. Be aware the you may swing during tides and wind directions, hence anchor away from bombies as they can be exposed on very low tides. The substrate is sand inside the lagoon. Best to track log a route into the lagoon and your intended anchoring position during daylight hours.

Fuel at 1770 Marina is available. Try phoning these folks for info.

When entering the 1770 bar, stay to the Starboard and close to the green bouy and start your track in from a NE direction. The bar has silted up a bit and will break on outgoing tides close to the rocks. Be aware that no beacons or bouys are lite inside the harbour, so daytime is perferred.

The last direction change near the marina is very shallow and will drop to .6mtr on low tides and further, do not cut corners or travel in line with beacons, particularly the second last 2 reds as that channel is not defined accurately and rocks are abundent. My adivce is to enter the harbour on a making tide 1/2 in at least, for larger boats.

For good info on anything in 1770 , log onto VMR Round Hill on VHF 81, 82. They operate from 0600 to 1800hrs daily.

Thanks guys, info much appreciated. 1770 sounds a bit average- I think I will pick up some juice at Bundaberg on the way back south.
Looks like a site seeing trip only!!! Just beautiful, first time there and fishing is closed! Only wanted one large reddy for the BBQ- was planning on heading back to NSW after this, might have to leave the boat up there a bit longer. Cheers

Not all fish come under the CRFF closures.

24 October to 28 October 2011, and 22 November to 26 November 2011 are for CRFF only.

Yes, Bundaberg Marina would be a preferred option to re-fuel.

we have refuelled at Bundaberg (well not exatly Bundaberg) a few times, there is a Marina almost at the entrance of the river, just call ahead and get them to organise a spot for you if you want to stay over night, they have decent toilets and showers and stuff too and a club within a couple of minutes walk if you want a meal and stuff like that.

Thanks, Noel- at this early stage of planning, on leaving the reef, we will just need fuel, then head down to Sandy Straits for the night- will give them a ring- will be trying for a cobia or mahi for the barbie now!- shame to eat beef on the reef!

I can't remember the name of the place, maybe Burnett Heads marina or something like that, the guy seemed really nice and helpful, even offered to drive us around if we needed to get anything, so you can't get too much better than that! someone on here will know the name or the number of the place I would reckon.
