Thread: Stradbroke Island Meet and Greet

    Stradbroke Island Meet and Greet

Reading the reports from the Tangalooma meet and greet everyone had a good time.

It was suggested by a few that we make one for Stradbroke Island.

Can people put there thinking caps on for some dates, doesn't have to be this year, maybe early in the new year.

Those that want to take boats and fish have a look at some moon phases that would suit a particular weekend and put them up and we can work towards a suitable date for everyone.

Could be a camping/boating M&G, maybe a bit of beach fishing or just exploring the island.

So put up your thoughts/comments/dates and see what we can come up with.

    Cheers

    Paul

hi paul, my vote is for jumpinpin area as that will allow 4x4 access as well as safe small boat access from carbrook/redland bay/jacobs well. also, probably a fair way away from any mexican backpackers.
    cheers

    Hi Dave,

Are you suggesting staying at Jumpinpin or just accessing The Pin from the southern end of North Straddie??

    Cheers

I suggest we go to Flinders Beach and camp with boats.....I am a regular there and have the following ideas to put forward...
-If you dont have a 4x4, team up with someone that has, this will lower costs. (it isnt cheap but worth the $'s)
-We would tow a tinny over and launch it into the gutter there, after christmas will be mackeral time and its easy to launch there is a S/Easterly and troll for them around Boat Rock, Shag Rock
-There are so many things to do if the weather is unfavourable eg Visit one of the many lagoons, beach fishing, visit pub, snorkel the Gorge, Brown lake,4x4ing
-After xmas holidays they normally lift fire bans, if not your normally allowed a small "cooking" fire

    My 2 cents
I dont mind either way as I am also just as happy with Pin area.

Thanks Marty, this is the sort of info we need for all interested in this event.

Anyone else that may be regulars to the area please put up your take on where you think this would be best held.

I'm not a regular over there and haven't been there for probably 10 years, last time I was there we stayed in a unit (in walking distance to the pub of course).

We used camp at Cylinder regularly when at school.

I think definately after xmas as most will have a lot on there plate between now and then.

Anyway, look forward to more suggestions.

    Cheers

Re: Stradbroke Island Meet and Greet

sorry paul. meant bottom end of north straddy, right near swan bay. offers good beach anchoring, estuary, beach and bay fishing (NOT IN SWAN BAY) and those with bigger rigs can go offshore via jumpinpin. motor down to grog at tipplers or drive up the beach to pt lookout. more fishos than tourists down that way. BUT it also allows ausfishers with smaller boats to join in the fun without the expense of barge fares. not a lot of blokes are keen on unloading $300 on a weekend plus all the extras.

    Main Beach camping.
Sites 12 to 15 are the last designated camping areas before the Pin which is about 3kms away.
No fresh water, no toilets, no showers. Point Lookout is 30 minutes or so away.
    Tide permitting.
We usually camp at 13. Our group of 15 people and all assorted gear use a third of the camping area at 13.

I havn't camped on Flinders but have done a lot of fishing there.
There are long drop toilets but not sure about showers.
Beach launching is usually at the Pt lookout end but I have found the best beach fishing is between Flinders track and Amity.

Another option is the Amity Caravan park.
Boats can be left on the beach ala Tangalooma.

    Ask Questions.

    .
My dictionary defines green as ‘unripe, immature, undeveloped'. Perfect description.

Most political parties are seen as interested in what the voters think, the Greens are seen as thinking the community should be interested in what they think.

    .
This seems like a good idea as you are not allowed to camp down the pin with the closest camp site being #15 on main beach as stated above. Flinders is not a bad option but doesnt really allow for a boat unless you tow it there. The only issue with Amity might be the rowdiness??? being a caravan park and all. Surely there would be enough 4wd among us to get everyone over there. You can get discounted barge fares a few different ways. Last trip I paid $112!

Re: Stradbroke Island Meet and Greet

i was talking about barge fares towing smaller boats (no self interest at all). would agree that amity offers the same possibilities as the pin and if it aint already rowdy it would be when we got there. only problems i can see is with extra tourists paul may get cranky with some poor sucker of a foreigner whilst jason forsakes mateship and drinking to go for a private peep show with the backpacker chicks
