The Laura Basin is a pretty significant coal resource, check out the map at the link attached.

You can be sure that there will be a port proposal for Bathurst Bay. As someone else has already stated, it might now be the case that it's made a sacrificial lamb for the others.
Look out Bowen...once you've been made a "state development area", it means 'sacrifice area' and anything goes.

Strange I seem to know nothing but drive home bumper to bumper in traffic jams every day.
The spending is nothing great, the government has Trillions yes Trillions of dollars in tax revenue, the spending is simply overdue as most things always are, there is no eye popping spending going on it is just what is needed as basic infrastructure long overdue.
as for the other comments, each to their own, you did not make any valid points proving I do not live in the "Real World".
Cheers
Haha. Bathurst bay as a port? The people running this country seriously needs more protein in their diet. You can read that which ever way you like.
Next stop would be oil rigs in the middle of the GBR
Humility is not a weather condition.
Been away from AUSFISH for few days, been very busy in case Captain Bligh does the post-Comm Games Gold Coast early election announcement on Tuesday for Dec 10. Don't think she has the nerve, but she might.
Like Phill, I too was concerned with the 4 Corners program.
The GBR is far too inportant to leave these jokers in charge of protecting it and at the same time facilitating job creating industries through our ports.
I just came back from Gladstone and Rocky. The Gladstone harbour crisis has sent shivers along the coast to every port and future port that will have a mix of industry and fishing and yet still require careful conservation measures because it is the GBR.
For sure neither this longterm financially desperate Labor government, nor the Cowboy-anything goes party are the right ones to steer Qld through this challenging situation. Only a CanDo LNP govt has the goods.
Mark
What are the goods ?. In detail.
Just another broad based statement with no detail to go along with it.

I watched the when first broadcast, it was a beatup in the real world, played to sentimentality every step of the way....paralleled all that is bad about the PC style of Austrlian expression but used it within the typical veiled ultra green ideology.
If the voice over is also the 'reporter' on this piece it seems she has her own crusade as I have been disgusted with the reasoning in a couple of other zealot pieces she has created.
In the words of Pauline Hanson....please explain. Please explain how a carbon tax is going to reduce carbon emissions when it is supposed to be revenue neutral. Saying it's going to be neutral is the biggest load of bullocks and we all know it. What are they going to do with the cash this carbon tax is going to inject into the coffers of Governments? Reduce carbon emissions????
No. It's more then likely going to pay for a new port in an area that is environmentally significant on a world wide scale so we (as a state and nation) can export more coal so it can be burnt to produce even more carbon emissions on a global scale. So in fact the carbon tax is a tax placed upon us so there can be MORE carbon emissions on a global scale....not less
As for hookers tax returns....therapist?? Vacuum?? community service??
Hey Mudriverdan....where does the 'imported' labour sleep and eat if they don't contribute to the flow on effect of local economies??
Where can you get accommodation is Brisbane for less then $200 a week??
But I have to agree about the infrastructure around Brisbane. They are only playing catch up.
Joh was the last person to build any infrastructure with the future in mind. Since then it's all been catch up.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good
hey finga......Just to clarify.
Labor/Greens thinks "its entirely appropriate to pass carbon tax into law......"
I think it’s ridiculous........I was pointing out that strong debate is still occurring in the area of global warming science, observational science is currently contradicting the models put forth by those that believe in the link between carbon emissions and dramatic global warming.
And yet, we have clear, direct evidence of environmental damage, in heritage areas, sanctioned by our government, denounced by the heritage society, to build export terminals, to export goods that will increase carbon emissions, to countries that couldn’t give a shight about global warming - it’s just fn ludicrous.
i've got to agree with your logic lampuki. the carbon tax is a farce designed purely as a revenue raising excercise to throw yet another tax at the middle income earners of this country. when you consider that it's gain on a world wide scale is minimal for the pain it will inflict it's definitely a load of rubbish.
i do however respect the right of an emerging economy to service it's increasing energy requirements with australian coal in order to help them progress, even if it means some extra pollution in their own country in the short term.
Hi Paddles.
Most of my family earns its money off exporting coalDad, brother and brother in law are all directly involved in the coal industry. And those that down play the benefits this industry provides the country do not understand how wide reaching the effects are.
I note that the Government has now done another monumental backflip regarding uranium.....
Yep. Lets sell the stuff to the Indians now(not eh cowboys and Indian type Indians...the Indian's who seem to own all the servo's).
A 180 degree flip on policy. But only if the Indians promise not to build nuclear weapons with it.
Sorry about my failure to see your joke matey. Very subtle. Well not really subtle but stupid me just read wrong.![]()

np finga....all good.
Hey what about the proposed US base at Darwin aimed at thwarting China?
What do you think about that? personally I think it is crazy since we have always had such a good relationship with China and we benefit from their trade and revenue.
All of a sudden the USA comes in and tells us China is a threat..... very disturbing I feel....not good
Obama was criticised for venturing out and organising this when he should have been at home working on the USA economic problems.
I would say this is one of his solutions....at the expense of who? Strange times ahead.
