Yamaha 225 Overheat Alarm

Just one for others who may have experienced my "problem".

I have a 4 Stroke Yamaha F225AET 2005.

Weekend before last, I ran out to the reef at 3800rpm, trolled for two days, and idled at 1500rpm to anchor in the protection of the reef overnight (no over heat alarm).

On the second day, after heading back to the ramp at 3800rpm, I idled at 1500rpm for about 100metres back to the ramp and the overheat alarm went off. I turned the motor off, then restarted and the alarm stopped. Actually happened out on the reef last weekend when I idled down to set my spread.

This has happened a few times, ONLY when coming back to idle after running. It's not an issue that over-concerns me, yet.

The alarm hasn't appeared on the test computer at my local Yamaha dealer.

Would it be possible that the alarm be due to overheating while idling, from running back in with the head hot and the idle flows not being able to cool quickly enough?

I've emailed Yamaha who recommend I drop it into a service centre.

The impellor was replaced 11 months ago, perhaps 120 hours use max.

Due for annual service next month, so will have it put on diagnostics again and new impellor etc fitted

might be best to get it checked out at a service but do you run in shallow water much it could be sand causing a blockage i did 15hours after some shallow water running and when we dropped the leg there was still sand around in the impellor.

I missed this post, the hazards of working away from home and very limited time to trawl through the net. Your problem seems to be very similar and hopefully we can both get a good result. My motor has only 30 hours on it so it is a concern.

Thanks Peter, my error, the motor is a 2006, not 2005 as I thought, whew!!!
