    Redland Bay Pontoon???

I saw this post in an Ausfish thread a while ago...

...and thought, "You beaut! There must be a pontoon at the Redland Bay boat ramp!"

The only Redland Bay boat ramp that I know is the hull crunching one in Weinam Creek. That ramp is well protected from the winds but with no side beach to pull a boat up on to, it is pretty unfriendly to solo boaties. So it was with some excitement that I drove down to Redland Bay yesterday arvo to check out the new pontoon, expecting to see one that hopefully would be the soft plastic ones such as may be seen at Victoria Point or Colmsie or a stack of other places.

Alas! I was disappointed. There is no pontoon contiguous to the Weinam Creek boat ramp.

Where have I gone wrong please? Is there another boat ramp in Redland Bay, complete with pontoon, that I am unaware of?

Charlie. The pontoon is to the left of the boat ramp which is pretty much use to pickup and drop off passangers.
You would need to restart your motor and idle over to the ramp then work your way off the boat to retreive your trailer.

It's pretty much like the pontoon is separated from the ramp. Useless i think. A floating ramp to the side of the boat ramp would be a smarter way.

Ah - thanks timddo. That explains why I could not see it even though I pulled up in the car directly at the top of the ramp.

I agree. A floating pontoon to the side of the ramp was what I was hoping to see.

Damn! What a wasted opportunity to make the ramp more user friendly.

There is a pontoon there it just is not connected to the ramp. Use it the same as any other pontoon except you have to walk maybe 50m to get to the ramp. Granted it could do with a tidy up and some new surrounds that are better than the 4 x 4 timber that is there at the moment. But it is still a floating pontoon.

It will be the pontoon between the ramp and the pens hey?It is old and in need of a bit of TLC like the lump said but it's still very handy. That is of course when there's not an old bay cruiser of some description tied up to it for hours on end.
