Thread: Tweed and Ballina River Mud Crabs

Re: Tweed and Ballina River Mud Crabs

    Hi crabman,
I think its got a lot do do with a limited resource and who gets what.
I am happy with one nice feed of muddies but now theres a few shamateurs(you know who you are, and so do some of us !) taking large quantities of any size crab its gonna blow out the resource a bit more.

I will probly start whinging when I cannot get a feed.

The good news is that I went out for a fish with rubbers last night and I had a look around the banks with a torch for curiousity before I left and there were good numbers of small muddies.

Maybe while the powers that be are throwing jew fingerlings in the river could throw as many juvenile crabs in there as well, Hint, hint.
I am surprised that there is not a marine hatchery set up in this area for restocking purposes. Use some of those fishing licence fees funds
I think we are getting to that stage now where the system could use some help.

Now, if we can all learn to share

    Cheers, steve.

Hi Steve , nail on the head mate "share" , everybody and every generation has the right to the resorce . maybe they should introduce a fee on commerical mud crabbing lic to go towards restocking . or use rec lic fees to buy out a couple from river

We went out last night with 10 dillies in my favourite spot and came up with zip.
It just didnt feel like its warm enough for crabs to move.
Im thinking its too early yet.
    They are there!

Re: Tweed and Ballina River Mud Crabs

I fished Sandon River over the weekend and only got 1 just legal buck.
Crabman, wasn't having a dig, just a stir. Hence the smiley faces. There's a big difference between the 2. I support that pro boys need to make a living, good on them, especially working as hard as they do in trying conditions and all to often they're the ones who get the finger pointed at them when there's a bad season or a shameteur gets caught overloaded with undersize crabs. I worked at the Clarence River Fish Co-op for a few years, wouldn't have stayed there if I didn't support them in some way.
But back to the topic, there have been a few crabs being caught, just not in good numbers yet. They're not empty either, but not as full as they will be soon enough!

Cheers Mattooty I just thought you were having a dig , It must of been that time of the month for me haha
    All good mate .

Suck about Sandon but what a nice place hey !!
Maybe this moon will see things change for the better , I have a mate with a little hoilday shack down at the clarence and he was there 2 weeks ago and got no crabs either , atleast it's every river and must just be to early . If it was only one of the rivers i would think that would be a bad sign !!

Hehehehe, obviously someone here does not like sharing

We are in for a week of 30 deg plus temperatures so I reckon the backdown of the bigger tides coming shortly will be the go guys.
    cheers, steve.
