I agree with most of the above but one of the big factors is the challenge of sorting out what the environment is telling me and coming up with a game plan that suits. Its this problem solving element that keeps me coming back.

I thought fishing was all about getting away from the mrs and gardening.

nothing..bloody cold overnight in winter..the smell of chook gut stinks.
    summer..too bloody hot..sunburn.
    mossie and sandfly bites.
    boat hitting sandbanks
soft plastics stink and don't work.
    braid cuts the fingers.
    crowds at boat ramps.

    BUT..it sure beats gardening..LOL
Geez your an old nark Pinhead

Got to say all of the reasons above (excluding pinheads' tongue in cheek whinge) but add to that the interaction with the environment that is pretty unique to fishing. Seeing whales, turtles, dugongs, Sea eagles, sea snakes, crocs- and at times all in the one day! It is something that the greenies talk about and want to protect but rarely experience cos they dont fish.
Also the anticipation of a day out wide. While it doesnt affect me as much as it used to when I was a kid and couldnt sleep the night before going out in the boat with one of dad's mates and when I finally did sleep I would wake every 20 minutes after 3am! Surprised I made it though the day.

All of the above, well most of it.
I’ve done lots of fresh water fishing in my younger years but doesn’t have nearly the same lure as the sea.
    For me it's about many things;
    • Seeing how different the sea is from one trip to the next.
    • The sound of the surf breaking on the beach, waves crashing onto the rocks, the roll of the boat as a swell passes under you, or those glassed out days when you can see many meters into the depths.
    • The serenity of fishing alone, or being with mates and giving them heaps at every given opportunity.
    • Pulling in a nice fish or seeing someone else catch a quality fish.
    • Being sea sick so bad you bring up ½ a lung and your stomach is inside out, that why I go fishing.
Maturity is not when we start speaking BIG things,it is when we start understanding small things

My, my you are an eloquent lot! But I have to agree with each and every comment...

There is just something very special about fishing. I have participated in this past-time (to me its not a sport) for over 45 years, yet I still tremble with excitement in anticipation of my next trip to Peel on Sunday!

Starting fishing with my granddad, then my mates, then my son...perhaps one day with my own grandchildren - if I ever have any! The circle of life all over again...

    Cheers

What I like about fishing is that when I do go, that voice in my head stops nagging me.
"...a voice in my head keeps telling me to go fishing..."
