problems
i,m currently building a couple of surf rods for a customer who requested that the open runner and 70 mm striper guide have a single under and double over.
my problem is that its been that long since ive done a double over i seem to be getting gaps between my binds.
is it because of lousy guide prep or am i binding to tight in the over or not enuff in the under
all comments will be well recieved[ unless you are taking the piss outa me]
thanks

Re: problems
It sounds like a bit of both mate. You need to make sure the guiode foot is ground back on a gentle slop and not to sharp. The other issue your having with gaps sounds like to much tension with your overbind and to little on your under binds. If you use to much tension on your over binds then you can very well run the risk of collapsing the blank wall with the foot of the guide. There is no reson to use to much tension on over binds because the guide relies more on the shear amount of threads rather than heaps of tension. The best way I can explain the amount of tension I use is that I pinch the thread in between two fingers and thats it. Surf rods see extrem conditions in terms of casting, I mean the blank is braught back and then rocketed foward at 100mph with a 5 ball sinker and pilchard. Not to many blanks around see that sought of strain so its even more important NOT to use to much tension on the guides with your thread.
