    Creeks To The Coast ...

Had some friends up from our old home in Cooma - Chris & Deane Mould. Chris has always been a keen anglers & was wrapped to when I suggested we try & find him a few jacks & barra in our local creeks.

Fishing weedless rigged Squidgy Slick rigs we managed a few cod before Chris nailed his m1st Jack - not a bad way to open your account Chris also dropped a good barra well into the 80cm's after waring out the 50lb leader

Went up the island to show Chris & Deane a few Whales last Thursday - with a little bit of fishing on the side which produced this lovely snapper before the weather turned & a filthy storm rolled through !

With the weather dawning better than expected on Sunday after another cracking storm Saturday evening we decided another run up the island was in order.....

Our first stop produced a stack of tea leaf trevally & Nath got smoked on what we suspect was a BIG Cobe ...

Nath also caught this - Looked like a snapper - only smaller

My modified/cut down 145mm Flick bait in yakka doing the trick again with this lovely 5kg snapper.

It has been a fantastic snapper season - with our hardest decision now being what to chase next

Great read and pics as always Scott!
Can't wait to get up there one day once my wife and I are out of little-baby-mode shutdown Ha Ha!

Do you cut down the length as well as the depth (top to bottom) of your flick baits mate?
(Just bought that exact colour for going to the Kimberlies in a couple of weeks on a barra trip. Thought they'd be a good finesse mullet imitation on lighter spin tackle)

Franco - I do cut about an inch off the nose as well to shorten them up ( aprox 5" over all ) - then trim the belly out level with taper on tail section - then trim edges off like ribs roughly with scissors. You end up with a great profile that swims well with larger tail & has fished really well for me with more bites than the standard 110mm model that I find is too thin in the main body for the jig heads we're running.

Ok Scott thanks for the info - good advice re size of flick bait wrt the jig heads - nothing more frustrating than when they split on the jighead!
Will try that on my trip and let u know how it goes on the barra!

Troy - I do not fsh down that way that often - mostly chasing tuna off Cowrie creek to the barges through winter. Also had some great whiting, flattie & bream fising on the big flat off The Bluff just inside In-skip on Fraser.
