How to back up marks on Raymarine A50/57/70D ?

    Hi Guys
Ive just installed a A70D and transfered all my marks into it. (took a couple of hours). Looking in the manual it says that you can "archive" them onto a CF card, but I should not use my Navionics Platinum mapping card that is currently in it. Overall, the manual is OK, but its not very detailed when it comes to backing it up.

I assume that I should purchase another blank CF card from Dick Smith etc for this ?

Ive found the menu screen to copy the details to CF card. I forgot to check if the A70D has 2 card slots, or if I have to remove my Navionics map card first.

After some experiences with "Archive" functions in MS Outlook Im a bit scared of that word ! If I use the Raymarine Archive to CF card function, will the marks REMAIN on my GPS and transfer to the card as well ?

It looks like only a few button pushes and pretty basic. But I dont want to stuff anything up. Any hints on what I need to buy or do ?

Hopefully once I get the marks onto a CF card, I can give them to one of my most trusted mates !!!

    cheers

Hi there fishingrod , yer just remove your navionics card and put in a CF scandisk thats what you will buy only a small one i think 4gig now the raymarine are set for the scandisk and just use the buttons on your A70D page/menu then archive/transfer and choose from the list to transfer them for a back up and you can get a free navplaner from navionics and load it on your pc and you can put the saved marks and tracks on it as well and yes you can put marks on your nav planer and then transfer them to your A70D with the same scandisk CF card the nav planer is a handy thing to have,i do this ever so often when ive gathered a few marks and tracks every 6mts or so ,its not nesseary for you to use the raymarine card reader ive just used what i had, hope this helps cheers Chris.

    Hi Chris
Thanks for the reassurance. Im on the hunt for a CF card now. The local Office Works only had gee wiz high speed SanDisk ones and they were a bit $$$. I'll look for a more basic SanDisk one over the weekend.

Ive seen that free NavPlanner software but havent downloaded it yet.

    cheers

    Just an update to this.
I bought a SanDisk CF card at Bing Lee for $29. Uploaded my marks to in within about 30 seconds flat. Put the card into my mates A70D and in less than 30 seconds I had all my marks on his unit too.

    Piece of cake !
