Well one thing I must remember is kids never forget anything. So after promising my nephew a trip to the brisbane river. My sister dropped him off the night before and we went through the safety rules. 1. No sillyness in the boat. 2.Do what the captain says.
Dropped in at pinkenbah around 6am, water was looking good and at the bottom of the tide. Launched the boat and headed out to the mouth for a few spots along the rock walls. Rigged up a stick for the nephew with a soft plastic and the set up the minn kotta to do my course.
Nephew was having a blast slow wind, little lift were his instructions.. Got a few bites and gets abit excited to which I explain that he lost the fish because he got to excited, slow and calm. Every now and again I would cast out towards the back of my drift and he would wind and lift. Gets a little bite and his rod is bending ever so slightly and he winds it in slow and calm. Up pops a little flatty, happy as
Off to a new spot and throw him out again, slow wind n lift I say.... I start casting away and drifting around setting up the course with the minn kota. He screams out I got one, I got one.. I thing yeah.. let him go and away he winds... he gets a good kick from the fish and it starts ZZZZZZ I was thinking crap, he has a nice fish here... and he cranks along slow and calm....
I laugh as he is nearly pulled over the side when it realised it was caught
heading away from the boat, he gets her up next to the boat and I net the fish thinking to myself thats 2-0 to my 8 yr old nephew Put the fish on the mat and she went 60cm. Great morning on the water and made my nephews day. Also had him on the gurni when we got home, can't go fishing in the boat if we don't clean it!
cheers Mossy
